Wildcat

The Wildcat was beta tested by people who had intimate knowlege of the aeroplane. It was never easy to trap and claimed many "victims" . The key is approach airspeed and not applying brakes early. With practice, the Wildcat can be trapped perfectly well if you know what you are doing. Advice was written on these forums when the Wildcat was first released, I am sorry but I can't remember who wrote it now but they referred to the common errors of not allowing for ship speed, headwind and flap usage.

This is the only taildragger I am having trouble landing. All the others (F6F, F4U, F8F) I land okay....don't bend the bird or slaughter any flight deck personnel. I use the checklist for the F4F and have correct approach speeds and good ball. And no brakes used at all.
I am using the original tailhook settings and am trying like hell to stop breaking this airplane. But I still bend the prop. Does anyone know the secret to trapping this Wildcat. Damn, the Airboss hates me.

Actually around 4 ft behind JF hook attach point where the visual model hook is
with a few extra inches to get the virtual hook catch point in the visual hook.

The second pic is my setup.

The large red cross is produced by the little Show Markers app and shows the
hook catch point, had the hook attach point been in the model it would show that
but it does'nt from aircraft.cfg.

I suspect that very few people stick with trying to do arrested landings
thinking nose over is down to FSX and is unfixable

jojohnson9,

are you still tipping on your nose on catching a wire earrlier you said you could land ok with my settings ???

Rich,
what program is that?

Smashing Time,
Great job on the VC weathering. It really feels good in there!

Thanks to both of you!

Yes I land fine with your settings. I tried the original settings to see if I could land with more practice. No luck, I nose over every time no matter how well I do my approach. So I went back to your settings and will stick to them. The Wildcat lands fine with your tailhook. Thanks.

Interiors repaint now here:

Of note: I found several small instrument feature textures don't show and some other anomalies when DX10 is enabled. ( the clock wind knob, the Martlet's compass bracket, and outside view of the gun sight bracket)

:kilroy:
Great vc textures - this transforms the Wildcat into a really good plane. The original vc really let it down. Have you done any other vc's? I am hoping someone will do the same to the Just Flight Connie vc one day....
Dave

Mal and anyone else that little app is Show Markers.zip and is I think still available on Flightsim.com, unfortunately it comes with little in the way of instructions and will only work in FSX with simconect and a few other FSX bits which I think most will have.

It will only show where things are on the model it can not be used like ACM in Fs9 to actually move things by drag and drop, still a usefull tool to see where things are you have to do the moving, I use nav lights as per my screenies to get the locations.

Mal, my findings using Show Markers, only open one marker at a time as all the crosses are exactly the same and you can soon get lost as to which is which, scrape points shows all scrape points at the same time as does fuel tanks, it can be confusing otherwise it is a very usefull tool.

Thanks Rich.

This is OT!

Mark,
Given your fantastic rendering of the Solomons, have you ever considered re-working Pearl Harbor (1941) in FSX.
I've been watching some shows about Dec 7th and would love to see some scenery turning back the clock to 1941.

just a thought. :)

On a happier note, Just Flight have announced the uploading of weathered textures for the VC.

There is also a service pack at that sight that indicates this:
"This service pack will correct an issue with the attitude indicator on the F4F-4 and Martlet IV"
I didn't notice any problems, but I installed it anyway. After I installed the service pack, I had issues. The roll needle (?) hangs up for awhile in a right wing down attitude. The roll bar is okay. I reinstalled the package and all is well now.
I guess what I'm saying is: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm waiting for an explanation. I was promised that I would get full credit.
Not happy here. These guys took my hard work and packaged it under their name without any credit to me whats so ever. They released the paint-kit a year ago and didn't say if you upload a skin they would take it a use it commercially.
Very poor ethics and integrity.

Rich, check your email please. I believe this to be a genuine error in communication, nothing more. I can assure you that Just Flight (and us come to that) would never do a thing like that, willingly. I can personally attest to JF's professionalism and standards.

I did ask you if it was OK and you said yes. What has happened is that it has gone out without your credits outside of the pack, for which I apologise unreservedly. I assumed, obviously incorrectly, that the credits in the package you sent me would suffice.

Bazzar, was this meant for me ????, I have no emails and as far as I know I have sent nothing to JF

Baz,
I hope your communication with them straightens out the mistake and its corrected. I was glad you asked me in the first place but one would think some kind of communication from JF, even an email to says thanks, would have been appropriate.
