Win 7 For Free

I thought you couldn't put win7 over vista? anyone read more into this?

It still means paying a very high price for at least Vista - which is an OS on the way out. Why buy a "so-so" OS just to own Windows 7 for "free" - install the beta RC version for no cost (until next year).

I think you get a new copy of Win7 at its release...Not installed over Vista...

I said I think....LOL

Windows 7 supposedly is set up so you can upgrade from vista without a clean install, then upgrade from say "Home Basic" to "Ultimate" at anytime without a clean install as well. 7 is supposed to be cheaper though, so I'd wait.

Well its like 20 bucks more than regular it appears.....

If you do in fact get both copies to keep, the reason would be or the free copy of Vista that you would inherit....

I'm just saying is all...I'm just posting what I read incase anyone was intrested... Being so-so is just your opinion, I have a copy and its not bad . I'll never toss it just for win7 ..It will stay on a system of mine somewhere.... I have Win 7 32 and 64 too..I happen to like them...Still keeping Vista though..And XP stays too......LOL

You can pre-order Win7 upgrade version from Microsoft at 50% or so discount. Win7 Home Permium is only 49.99. If you have XP or Vista full version already, this may be the cheaper way to go.

Some of our members learned a hard lesson when pre-ordering software. When FSX first came out many ordered there copy of FSX from different companies only to find out that many...I mean many others just went to the local store and brought it and installed it...the ones who pre-order had to wait a week or so before there copy came in.:isadizzy:

hey_moe, yea if you are in a hurry to get Win7, but the OS isn't supposed even to come out until October(?) In the mean time, if you have to have Win7, there's the release candidate which should work for almost another year. And yes, I do have 64bit Win7 RC install, dual boot with my XP. It might be because my Win7 install is only a month or two old, while my XP install is over 2 years old, but Win7 runs a lot smoother on my system. Now, if I can only get used to the weird UI and .....

Honestly after rereading rhis over, it may be an add on type upgrade to Vista..

Hmmmm....I think like Chris now, not to sure that is a good thing...

I believe as Scarecrow said, that the discount looks like a better deal.....

@HeyMoe...Thats a good point too....!

Well I am already using W7/64 and haven't really had a problem other than what others have complained about...the icon freezing for thirty seconds or so. It is a good OS and has some nice features. Very user friendly too.

Many of the OEM system builders are offering free upgrades to Win 7 on systems that are currently sold and configured with Vista.
I'm happy out with Vista Ultimate 64bit on my current desktops....but I'll most likely build a new system exclusively for the new OS when 7 is released.
