WIN7 64bit---which video-driver?

big-mike

SOH-CM-2022
After the upgrade to WIN7 64bit Ultimate i have now heavy stutters with the driver 191.07.With Vista i had the 182.50 installed with a good result.
For WIN7 the 182.50 is no longer available.
I have to use my old 8800GTX,my 285GTX is back to the shop for a warrenty replacement.
Which driver do you use?
Michael

Post back and tell us what happens, Michael. I'm going to do a similar upgrade next week, with 8800GT.

Actually any driver we would suggest (because we use it and have good results) would not necessarily work on your system. . .and you can go through half a dozen different drivers and forget, by the time you're done, which one it was that didn't stutter quite as much as that other one you just tried, lol.

I've tried every single one as they come out and rarely if ever do I see any huge differences and normally if you read the release notes. . .you'll find that the changes made to that driver to make it ver 192.38 as opposed to 191.38 has absolutely nothing specific to do with FSX or flightsim in general. They tweaked this or that to make Halo or some other game show more mist in the valleys or some such nonsense, lol.

I'm running Win7_64bit with an NVidia 9600GT/512 and using the 191.38 driver. For whatever that's worth.

I am running Dual nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512MB cards on Win 7 64 with the
191.07 drivers with no problems.

Michael, you can find earlier drivers by Googling nvidia driver "windows 7" 64. I added 182.50 to this search and got your old Vista driver here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_182.50_whql.html. Not saying you should install it! And there's a 185.81 for Win7/64 here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_x64_185.81_beta.html.

Hi,
the 182.50 is for Vista 64bit and i had installed .But after the upgrade toWIN7 64bit this driver didn`t work anymore.
Do you mean this 182.50 will now work,when i download it again?

My only point: the driver is still available. I myself am running XP-32 at the moment, so I can't say what will or won't work in W7-64. Will upgrade maybe next week, probably the week after. Just ordered a clean hard drive today, though, so it will be soon.

182.50 downloaded and installed without problems,but the stutters remains.
Maybe the upgrade from Vista to WIN7 wasn`t the best decision.
A clean install is allways the best way.
Will see,if i can tweak the cfg. a bit,if not,i have to do
a complete new install of everything.

Great!
TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120

that`s all.FSX runs smooth as before with Vista.
182.50 is still the driver for FSX.
You don`t get high FPS,but that doesn`t matter,the main thing is a smooth running Sim.
My opinion.
Michael

Today the blues goes on!
Got an erroe "the driver doesn´t work anymore and was restored"
Seems,that the 182.50 is really not for WIN7.
Just dl the 185.85 and will try this one.
Slowly i have enough of this.

U need new OS .I mean reinstall than is everything would be on his right way.
I had the similar problem with drivers what was older like 182.50 .
Sorry my bad english .

:wavey:

I know,but that makes no sense momently.
I wait to get back my GTX285 and then a reinstall would be ok.
But now,with the 8800GTX that`s not the way to go.
Michael

Momently the Sim runs fine with high settings and driver 185.85.

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80
DisablePreload=1

TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1000
[JOBSCHEDULER]

[BUFFERPOOLS]

Nearly no stutters and nice to fly.
Enough for today,i hope tomorrow nothing has changed and i have again a bad result.
If not,i will try the 191.38
