Get this, On my xp 32 slave drive I let the windows up date do a up date. Then it wanted to do IE 8 up date then it wanted to shut down. Might I add this is a one day old HD with a 1 day old with nothing on it os, stock nothingness. So it goes to reboot. blank screen, ded in the water. Total nothing----> ness. Not even key baord support.. wowie isnt this how a professional company represents it self. Ihave heard of this many time just never experianced it. So it looks like a reformat and I will do as I always have and shut off the updates...cause this happens every time.

WAY TO GO MICROSOFT YOU ARE THE CHAMPS!

more like the chimps.

I feel your pain.

Because of times like this, I went Apple. I now own a nice, new iMac 24 with OSX, has WinXP installed in BootCamp. I have a fall back when XP doesnt function.

Sad when you have to fear OS udpates.

I too share your pain, IE8 broke my computer and I installed Chrome.
Manual updates + Any Other Browser = Windows Computing Happiness

Never ever allow any software to auto update...especially Windows. Doing so is an invitation for disaster. I was moving some sim files around one day, and right in the middle of a secure move, my anti-virus started an auto update.....and all of the repaint templates that I was moving were corrupted. I lost close to 3 dozen repaint templates and dozens and dozens and dozens of paints that I had done or nearly done. From that point on, nothing is allowed to auto update.

not only should you turn off auto-update from the control panel, also stop their processes for good from services.msc. While you are there, turn off stuff like Remote Registry, Remote anything..etc.

Windows is very stable if you run it lean and mean. Also, if everything is working fine, then don't update it. I haven't done an update for over 2 years. I'm still on SP2 on most of my machines...cuz everything i use is fine.

A lot of people update their software for no reason (just so they can use the latest version...but for what??). Sometimes updates cause more problems then they fix (especially if you are not experiencing problems in the first place). I'm still using Photoshop CS1, ACDsee v3.1 (from 1998), and 3D MAX v2.5 (from 1999). If it ain't broke.... :) plus these software run suuuppper fast on today's hardware.

And don't use Explorer! It's the worst browser in the history of browsers. Switch to Firefox, Chrome, etc.

i still wanna know what you guys do to mess your computers up so much .. i ....

Let windows update itself automaticly
Use IE8
Let 3/4s of me programs auto update
Install and uninstall stuff without even thinking of defraging before, during or after
Defrag only once/twice a month
Only run a regscan when i feel like it
Dont open the side of the case on a hot day
Dont disconect from the internet
Dont keep it nice and clean (both inside and out)
Dont kill off all the proccess/services at startup
I use XP and i'm useing SP3

... and i've only had 3 real problems with it, and they where trojans that zone alarm didnt catch. So what on earth do you guys to yours?? :173go1: :icon_lol:

I have Windows notify me of updates , but not install them..

That was I see whats being offered....And I choose whats installed.. If it borkes, I know what it is..Safe mode will let you uninstall them..

NEVER accept any LAN .. SOUND .. Controllers .. ETC run....

Plus....KILL ALL HP updates....

I must be missing something here....how can downloading and installing a MS update wipe out your computer? If there was a problem like that going on with the update there would be red flags all over the net warning people. Every computer out there operates different. You can build 2 computers using the same parts..ect..ect...and still have them operate different...weird...have you tried going into safe mode and removing the update?

ok got it going but it took a doss prompt. I went through doss and guess what.. everything was turned off. The boot was the only thing on and there was nothing else for it to boot up with so it just sat there. So i went and turned everything on... lol what a wheird thing to happen.

After that it took about 5 reboots in safe mode to get it to run nicely.
Now its fine but I do wonder why that happened, its an odd thing to occure. Good thing I have had to rip into windoz about a million times before and now can walk around in there like its my house from so many times fixing this or that.

I just cant wait for the windows 7 night wares that are awaiting me. And bull **** to those that say windows is awesome and perfect.. it cant chew gum and walk at the same time. But it is what all the games we use run on so be it.

Anyways Im back up and running and back at work on my new release coming out soon.
