Windows 10

Upgraded my laptop from internet yesterday. Everything "automatic", everything just perfect, all instaled programs working as they should except Kaspersky Internet security 2015 that wont run . Contacted support, upgrade to 2016 that solved the issue. Quite satisfied. When I get home will see if I´ve been notified to upgrade my desktop with FSX and P3D among other games...but, so far so "very" good and happy with W10. Now will try to learn how to make an isso if someday I need to reinstall. Read something about it on this forum, gonna check...

Beaufighter,

You can image you whole install with a very nice proggy called "Acronis". It makes a reïnstall a work of about 10 minutes.

http://www.acronis.com/en-eu/person...&matchtype=p&gclid=CN2hp9qEmscCFXDHtAodAocOuA

Install Acronis, have it make the bootable media.

Boot from the bootable media (CD or USB thumbdrive), choose backup, point it to the disks you want to have in the image and then indicate where you want to have that image stored.

It really is worth the money! But if you want to, download the free trial to check it out.

I couldn't live without it anymore!

GMan: Which 3ds Max version? I've heard that v9 has issues on Win 10.

Beaufighter: http://windows.microsoft.com/de-de/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

I'm in 3DS Max 2015. I'm good to go with P3Dv2.5 SDK and FSX SDK...at least from what I have seen so far. The first place I went after the Win 10 upgrade was Photoshop CS6, 3DS Max, Gmax and the P3D peripherals. Everything checks out OK as of this post.

My primary concern was the Native Tigercat and a number of scenery WIP projects. The Tigercat is even better than before with DX12 and the airport scenery modeling and vegetation libs are all healthy. I've got four WIP airports installed in my 2.5. Looks like I don't need to do any tweaks on the scenery objects to adjust for DX12.

Looks like smooth sailing...so far. If anything jumps out at me I'll post a HU here.

Okay, the newer Max versions should be less likely to exhibit strange behaviour on newer OS.

Thanks for the good news on GMax, by the way. Was a bit concerned about compatibility beforehand.

The issues with Max 9 haven't been elaborated so far, but so far Max 2008 is playing fair with me. I haven't moved to Windows 10 wholesale, I'm trying it on a separate HD beforehand: no point in moving over unless it runs all the software I habitually use, only one of which is FSX. I'm still amused with the various reactions to the new OS and I think I can live without Solitaire: business is business and customers can still vote with their wallets.

Question for the Windows 10 Home users: does it offer the possibility to refuse driver updates, so that only Windows and the programs are updated?

In the pro version, they are located in the advanced system properties.

Yes, it's there in the one Home version I have Upgraded.

Heres my experience today.

I have a couple of computers for personal use. A Lenovo Erazor X510 gaming PC that I use for personal and FS use. Wife has a brand new Dell Inspiron. I installed Win10 on both today.

The X510 failed install twice when I just downloaded and tried to install it from hard disk. However, when I downloaded it to a USB drive, it worked fine. Pretty intuitive to figure out and once I installed Nvidia win10 drivers, it was just fine visually.

I fired up FSX and ran it with only one problem but a lot of benefits.

1. Raggedy fonts I had in dialog boxes were fixed and clear.
2. Frame rate was great. I set it at max 40 and it ran just there no problem.
3. I had some blurriness previously with Orbx sceneries depending on how fast the airplane was flying. Thats gone.
4. Plane flew much more fluid and was fun to fly.

One problem. And this is one I had some times before in Win8.1... when exiting, the sim hangs. No idea why. In win 81. I could toggle alt tab and task manager to shut down the offending exe. Now I cant. I had to pretty much reboot the machine to get out of FSX. No idea why this is the case.

Anyway, when I was flying, it was great.

Updated my main PC this afternoon, encouraged by the success with the first one.

Not much to report, update went without hiccups, and all application programs I have tested so far behave nicely, including FSX/P3D plus addons (networked and local).

I don't like that Edge doesn't remember location and size between sessions, for now I'll stick to my old browser. Other than that I like Windows 10 so far.

The KB3081424 package installed perfectly for me in here (In the first try). No issues.
There is too much histeria in the air i think.

The same here.
I must agree with you and I have yet to see anything of particular value at the
Forbes site.
I did suffer the automatic driver installation which broke the Nvidia driver
but simply clean installed over it and switched off the option.
No sign of any further attempts to install it or any other.

Another practical update for Gmax users thinking about Win 10.

After dealing with poor Gmax performance for two days following the Win10 upgrade, I opted to un-install Gmax including physically deleting the Gmax folder from the C:drive.

I re-installed Gmax from the SDK installer, placed the FSX_GmaxGamePack folder in it's appropriate location and booted Gmax from the SDK Gmax icon. The program booted immediately with FS Tools available.

I've determined that the Heidi driver is probably the most stable. Using the other drivers produces a memory crash on export of larger files i.e. typical airplane model.

No such issues in 3DS Max 2015, but Gmax @ 32bits requires a bit of maintenance following the Win 10 upgrade.

The upside: Extremely good graphics quality in Win10 across the board, including the Gmax workspace.

Win10 upgrader on my Thinkpad: "Your CPU is not compatible."

Seriously, Microsoft? This CPU (T9300) is only seven years old.

Ok, FSX working perfectly at first try, had to reactivate P3D, e-mailed them, fixed next day...fine
Got a problem with my Soundblaster X-Fi Titaniun but Creative is to blame...think they never heard about W10 and drivers will be available, acording with their site, only in September...
Overall, I'm quite happy with new OS.
