• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

How to uncheck read only in Global Layer Folder in ETO. Had it working before I screwed up and reinstalling ETO. I got all the editing right in Global Layer and Master Startup. Every time I uncheck read only in Global Layer folder it auto checks itself to read only . Help needed . Thanks

In Win 11 to fix read-only folders reverting to read-only, first disable Controlled folder access in Windows Security. If the issue persists, you may need to use PowerShell to remove the attribute recursively or take ownership of the folder in the Security tab of its properties.

1. Disable Controlled folder access
  • Open Windows Security by searching for it in the taskbar.
  • Go to Virus & threat protection.
  • Click Manage ransomware protection.
  • Toggle the switch for Controlled folder access to Off.
Have I said lately I hate win 11.

Allow me to say that this is a very bad idea. Controlled folder access should be on. Disable it for some choice folders, but by and large it should be on.

This is the 21st century, cyber security is of the utmost importance. What you're saying is the same as "strip naked, cover yourself in honey, pet the bear"...

In the old days we could disable user account control without too many risks. Nowadays, stupid shite like that is no longer on. Excuse my French. If a PC is connected to the internet, you do not meddle with security.

Rather than making global changes, I typically just go into the properties of that folder and change the user permissions to include read/write.

On my system this is usually just a problem on the C drive and not any of my secondary drives. That's why installs like ETO, RS and BoLG that need to swap out files all the time don't end up on my C drive.
