Windows 7 and FSX...

SOH-CM-2013
...I'm just wondering if any of you have had the below experience. Sometimes, FSX will just spool and spool upon opening until it just finally gives up. I do a computer restart and it will start up just fine on the very next attempt. Other times, it doesn't want to shut down. Same solution...computer restart. These situations just seem to happen randomly.

Hi R-D, I'm sorry to tell you that I have never seen this happen. Bill

Actually, that is good to hear in a way. From the dearth of responses to my post, it must not happen to anyone else either.
It's not a big deal for me as I know what to do when it happens. I was just wondering if anybody else had a similar snake in their computer. :kilroy:

I have not had one bit of problem with FSX in W7/ 32 bit or 7/64 bit.

First thing, I'm not computer literate. Heck! All I can tell you guys about my rig is that there's a little sticker on it that has Windows 7 printed on it and another that has Intel Core i7 printed on it. I just went through all the scenery files and deleted everything that was not activated. When I first installed FSX, I copied over all my FS9 addon scenery files. Don't know if that did any good or not but, so far I have not experienced any more flukes. [ I can hear the voices telling me: "Just wait." ]

I have quite an ordinary PC with core i7, Windows 7 Pro/64bit and FSX Acceleration installed. None of the symptoms you discribed.

Perhaps something has gone wrong while you installed FSX? Reinstall might help. One advice. Don't install FSX in the default folder on C:. It won't cause the symptoms you discribed above but you'll get some editing troubles unless you totally turn off the User Account Control (which perhaps isn't a good idea from another point of view). I have installed FSX (as well other games) on a totally another drive D: (where UAC doesn't play such a big role).

I didn't know much about FSX when I installed it 2010. So I followed these instructions:

First guess is that you have copied over too many of your FS9 scenery folders & its too much work. I do notice that FSX takes a long time to load the scenery on my installation & I only have a couple of additional FS9 addon scenery airfields.
I'm running W7 32bit.

I'm running Win7-64 and never had this effect.

Did you run FSX with positive results before copying the FS9 sceneries?
Also beware of the generic \scenery\ and \texture\ folders under \addon scenery\. Everything that stays here is active by default.

Pekkas advice about installing it on a different partition or better, different hard drive is also almost mandatory on Win7 systems. Where did you install yours?

Cheers,
Mark

Didn't run it before copying the FS9 sceneries. Just stuck them in there.

Since taking out all the stuff that wasn't activated, so far so good.

The only one I have available [ C ] . The other is the backup drive [ D ].

I think that may have been my problem.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I'm going to keep searching for other FS9 add-ons that potentially could continue to contribute to the problem. Heck! I might have forgot to remove a gauge file that shouldn't be in FSX. Seems like I remember copying a FS9 airplane that showed up fine until I copied some missing gauge files into the FSX gauge folder.
