Hi

Need some help if I am to stay in the game ( even if it's only on the edge these days )

My old rig - running on Windows XP - recently expired - fortunately had my CFS 2 installs on an external HDD - Seagate 500Gb USB 3.

My new rig runs Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 and is:

Intel(R) Core (TM) i3-4130 cpu @ 3.4GHz
RAM 4Gb
64 bit OS
Intel (R) HD Graphics 4400

And when I run the game I can't access some features like Recon Photo, Scenery Library ( From the Options\ settings menu on the window - but ok from from game menu page)

Also the desktop shortcut won't accept the mission builder address

And to cap it all this is what the game looks like

Anyone out there know how to cure this - I've tried all sorts of settings in the game and graphics control panel and every compatibility setting.

Would appreciate any kind of help.

Hi Baldy,

If you haven't done it, I think doing a fresh install from the CD onto your new rig may be required, followed by copying over the all the add on files from your backup drive. Don't copy the backup cfs2.cfg file over.

Baldy,

I have some of those problems on my laptop with Mission Builder, (including disappearing plane textures, especially on older-model aircraft, as well as those type of annoying graphics errors, which make placing objects hell in Mission Builder sometimes) but there are some things you can do.

First, make sure that you have these installs placed in the x86 Program Files folder, not the Program Files folder, which is 64-bit.

Second, make sure to right-click on each exe.file and run the program in compatibility mode for XP Service Pack 3.

This may help clear up some of your issues. Could you please also describe the type of problem you're having with MB shortcuts? That's one problem I can't figure out.

We'll help you get this sorted out, no worries.

Another thing I have done is in CFS2 properties I run it always as administrator.

The only problem I have now is after flying a new mission in MB, making changes and coming back into the mission, my FPS are toast as are my graphics.

Once I restart MB I am okay until the next fly-modify-fly. At that point my FPS go from over 100 down to 2 and my graphics go from 1920X1080 by 32 bit down to CFS2 16 bit minimums.

Talon put up a forum thread about graphics settings for nVidia cards that has been a life saver in WIN7X64 for me.

If you can find it, try changing your graphics card settings to those Talon advised.
 
Just get back to XP...some would say via running an XP virtual machine inside of the W7 OS and others like myself stick with the old straightforward "set and forget" approach of dual booting. In my experiences, virtual machines sometimes have gaps in video, audio and controller hardware support and utilization. Either way you choose, you eliminate the burdens and complications imposed by the shells of newer MS operating platforms. If you can get your hands on an XP disk and a copy of its service pack 2, you're in business. Even though MS has ended XP support, you can still find download sources around the web for most if not all the critical XP updates after SP2 was released, if you have any concerns. Yeah there's a little research and work involved, but its worth the hassle to play CFS2 without the interference of incompatibilities.

Hi Baldy.

I'm running CFS2 successfully on Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1, I have a different processor (Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-3570K cpu @ 3.4GHz) and graphics card to you but otherwise the same. I recognise the triangles appearing in cfs2, but NOT from Windows 7. Unfortunately it was a LONG time ago that I had this problem, but it certainly wasn't Windows 7, it was XP or possibly Windows 2000 Pro.

Anyway the fix if I remember was to update the graphics driver, or possible to get a new card - sorry I really can't remember. I'm not clear but is your "Intel (R) HD Graphics 4400" built in to the motherboard? If so I suspect that is the problem, you may need to buy and install a separate graphics card as the on-board video simply may not be up to the job.

Apart from that I would go with the other people's suggestions of making sure you are running as administrator etc.

W7 graphics ?

Hi all

I'd like to thank you all for all the suggestions and help -- I think I've sorted the visual problem as best I can -- after reading all the help and some past threads - particularly one by SW - what really helped was updating W7 and using the game settings - it's not truly 100% but is good enough for my purposes -- the thing I need to sort now is the Mission Builder shortcut

My game shortcut properties reads :


Target = "E:\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2 PTO\cfs2.exe"

Start in = "E:\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2 PTO"

what should the shortcut for the Builder read?

My shortcut is exactly the same, but no quotation marks...

D:\FLTSIMS\CFS2_INSTALLS\CFS2_CBI\cfs2.exe /BUILDER <--- copy & paste from the shortcut properties window.

Are you logged on as Administrator when you're trying to create the shortcut? Is UAC switched off?

This is how I created mine, maybe this method will work for you.

I create a shortcut on the desktop for my CFS2 install. I launch CFS2 from this shortcut to make sure it works.(especially useful if you have multiple installs on the go, nothing worse than linking to the wrong install!)
I right click on this short cut & copy it.
I click somewhere else on the desktop & paste a duplicate.
I rename this MB_CFS2
I then right click, go to Properties & change the end of the Target line to ...cfs2.exe /BUILDER
Click "apply" to save the changes.
Launch Mission Builder using this shortcut to check it works(especially useful if you have multiple installs on the go!)

This: "D:\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2 BPF\cfs2.exe" /BUILDER is mine from WIN7X64 to my D: HD which has no operating system, just formatted in WIN7X32.
Mine works fine on all of my 12 installs of CFS2.

Yes that's what I've got now -- my E drive is an external expansion portable disc plug in with usb -- 2 cfs installs
