Hello All,

Here is a fellow that is using a machine somewhat comparable to my machines.
His is faster than my slower W98SE machine and quite a bit slower than my faster one.

Most of the things that do not work seem to be a lack of processing power which obviously does not have to be the case.

Enjoy!

Hello Ivan,

What fun! This machine is at least twice as good as a P-II Toshiba 266 MMX
that I got given in 2004. I upgraded the Memory from 128 Mb to the
max. allowed 512 Mb, which made it very usable.

It could cope very well with Office 97, and even with FS98, albeit without
hardware accelleration for its meagre 2Mb Video RAM, but unfortunately
it was sadly slow with Internet because of the anti-virus, and no good at all
for films.

I used it in class quite often for 4 or 5 years, for reading and grammar exercises,
but ended up giving it away... Pity, it was sturdy and reliable! Heavy like a brick!

They don´t make´em like that anymore, do they?! Ha!

Cheers,
Aleatorylamp

Finally had a chance, and time to spare for that hefty 199 MB video. Way faster than my dear departed W98SE Compaq Presario.

The object of the demonstration was mainly oriented towards internet networking, which is not something I plan to do if I use W98SE on one of my recuperated machines. I do have a master "full install" original factory CD that has all the drivers I may need, along with a burned CD of all the Windows updates.

External communication will probably be by USB key, CD or transfer cable only.

But fun to see that good old W98 was not forgotten.
