WIP: Long Tieng - Air America 's nest by FSX Vietnam War project

Hello guys,

I've started on sunday Long Tieng, Laos, as the airfield was in 1969 in a new version.
Photo LOD 16 and 17.
I'm making also custom objects such as general Van Pao's villa.

Here are the first pictures, runway will be hand-made texture, objects are not placed, it is only a draft.

If anyone want to do missions for Air America pilots, a kind of tribute to Piglet's Porter.

looking forward to this one...that photo scenery sure looks a lot more like Nam than MS's weak attempt at generic Asia (farm silos???)

keep up the good work.

:ernae:
I'm going to re-read "Flying through midnight" from Tony Halliday for this !!
Looks great!

Cheers,

:applause:

Really looking forward to fly to and out of this one (when I'll have time enough to get back to flightsim that's to say  ) ! I did a personal version for FS9 that I never completed to fly an Air America repaint of Milton Shupe Beech D18 . Here some some links on LS20A for those interested with rare pictures of the CIA secret bases in Laos :

Got to say I'd love a whole photoreal Vietnam & Laos area with autogen that would be amazing as this looks, but can you get higher rez on the scenery?

Long Tieng - 4th version

Hi,

First, thanks to Dominique. I've find some pictures that I don't know.

Unsatisfied by the works in progress, I've start another version, using LOD 18, in a unique photo, to prevent the too many settings of color and contrast and light, I've done in former versions. BUT its weight is heavy, about 5 Mb, without night, seasons, masks.

Is it too heavy ?

Some pictures later, today.

One of the links looks it's not working. Here are some pics out of it .One seens that he runway was elevated on an embankment, few feets above the ground. Doing that was almost impossible in FS9 due to the poor ground resolution.

Xavier :

Very realistic . Really looking forward to this . It looks like the reddish-orange dirt you would typically find in Viet Nam . Thanks for all the hard work you have been putting into this .

Pas mal du tout :) ! LongTieng had a very special environnement as it was hemmed in a valley with karstic formations on one end of the runway. Flying anything else than an helicopter (or a Pilatus Porter :)) was quite a challenge, I presume.

EDIT one Thai link I didn't know

The first pic is quite interesting and, in the other ones, it's kinda strange to see that "normal" life has taken over...

Thanks,

It is one of my favourites pictures of Long Tieng ( by a CIA officer ).
there is the the bituminous road , it seems that this road was the only one to be covered by bitume , and only on a very short length just opposite of general Van Pao villa.

My version will be a melting of all pictures I've saw about Long Tieng, with a dirt road.
