The Wikipedia entry for it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakajima_Kikka BTW, Wiki comments that the resemblance to the 262 is superficial, mostly confined to its appearance.

The National Air and Space Museum's example was recently moved out of long-time storage into the new restoration facility at the Udver Hazy Center, where its restoration will be on public viewing until it is is moved to permanent public display within the museum when finished.

Not sure whether or not it ever flew. The Germans had enough trouble with the Jumo 004, imagine what issues the Japanese were having with lacking many of the required elements for good metallurgy late in the war. This was even a factor in late war piston engines, bad metallurgy due to lack of raw materials.

It does have to be mined, grown or drilled.....

Somewhere I read an interview of the test pilot for the Kikka... I think it flew once, if I recall correctly...

As I understand it, the Kikka was actually smaller than the 262. Its engines only generated somewhere around 2/3 the thrust of the Jumo 004. There was another plane the Japanese were developing that was much closer to the 262 in size and shape, slated to take bigger engines- the Ki-201 Karyu. I would love to see one of those modeled someday...

Folding wings? To hide it in caves etc? In the ever continuing quest for a performance edge many new ideas were tried late in the war. Some imaginative but beyond the workable technology of the era. On all sides! Let us know if you have any more info on these interesting planes!Cheers: T
