Wireless "N" did the trick!

My 87 yr old ex father in law, J.D., lives in a detached garage apt., about 50 ft from my house, on my property. He's on a low, fixed income, and can't afford satellite tv anymore. I had orginally tried setting him up with Netflix and internet (shared from my house), but my wireless "G" signal wasn't strong enough. I'd read that wireless "N" had a greater range, but didn't want to rush into buying new equipment until I was sure it would work.

Well, I bought a Netgear wireless "N", model
N600 WNDR3700 Dual Band Gigabit Router. Setup was extremely easy. And it works! Not only can J.D. watch Netflix movies online, I am still able to surf, download files, etc, without affecting his viewing capability whatsoever!

Ain't technology cool?

Just make sure that each device that is connected to the router is wireless N format too...if you connect a wireless B or G device it'll automatically reduce range/speed to this format.

Correct! I made sure that the Netflix box (Roku) that I hooked up at J.D.'s is "N" compatible. Curiously though, I have a LG dvd player that is supposed to be "N" compatible, but it is not picking up on the faster of the two channels. No problem though. Fast enough for me. My main goal was to set up J.D. with Netflix, and I accomplished that.
