Wish me luck

Well it finally happened. My trusty custom built XP desktop finally packed up. It will load in safe mode only. The reserve XP tower I've kept on standby is not working either- I think the power supply is going.

I have continued to use XP for all the CFS2 stuff I do, because the development tools I use are made for XP; FSDS 2.4, FSSP, CFS2's MB etc. Regardless that some other guys have been able to get these tools working on WIN 10/11, I have had no success in trying to use their solutions with my WIN 11 system.

I'm turning the XP rigs over to an IT guy with 40 years of custom experience next Tuesday to see If he can fix and/or rebuild them. He has extensive experience with XP in the past and is actually excited to work on an XP system again, says it will be fun. I hope so.

I have all my CFS2 stuff backed up on USB flash drives except for the last couple of weeks work on the B5N2 Kate I was getting close to finishing. If one or both the XP computers come back working I can recover it all and go back to work. If the XP rigs are not recoverable, I will be stuck trying to get WIN 11 to work and that's a big question mark.

So wish me luck.

While I have him working for me, I'm going to have him replace my WIN 11 hard disk C drive with a terrabit drive which quadruples my space, and have him optimize the system structure somewhat. For a few days next week I'll be off line.

Do hope things will be repaired and you can go on. I just bought a 2nd-hand XP for my CFS2-oldies too, just for reserve.

I still use windows 7 but still have older computers with win 95,98 and 2 with XP. My son still like some older DOS games. On the boat we still have has win 10.
