wmp.dll error

Hello all,

While I own a bona fide retail version of CFS3, I rather foolishly tried the no-CD.exe hack file and ended up buggering-up a Win7 x64 system file. I know, I know...

Now I get a non-initialization error wmp.dll cannot be found. No fun in sim-land.

I've googled the issue, it is related to that bloatware Windows Media Player, and there seems to be no solid answer. Re-install CFS3 has not helped, nor system update. And oh! When I went to try system restore NONE OF MY 3 EARLIER RESTORE POINTS WERE THERE!!!! They just weren't there and I know I made them.

Has anyone overcome this error or have some good advice? I am trying to avoid a complete reinstall since I just got the system in a sweet-spot (other than this!), but failed to clone the complete drive to backup. Go figure...

many thanks, happy politically correct holidays:icon29:

Check Tailwind's "Windows7 install fix" in the Sticky Threads section

I am not familar with the new Windows 7. Check the above Sticky Post by Tailwind.

It concerns CFS3 and Windows 7.

Thank you for reply. I believe this isn't specifically a win7 problem, and the thread mentioned has to do with resolving multiplayer issues. My CFS3 was running just fine before I tried the non-CD CFS3.exe, my bad...

This is a Windows Media Player dll problem, and while I have tried to browse over in M$-land for a resolution to no effect, I was hoping somebody here might also have encountered this.

It was a shot in the dark...
