WOFF Searchlights and ETO?

Hi all,

Has anyone managed to use WOFF's searchlights with ETO 1.5?

Just curious if it can be done.

The other thing is would I need to add or replace the current lines in ETO with the WOFF searchlight lines from the WOFF effects.xml to the effects.xml in ETO?

Thanks,

Chris

There are features built into AnKor's Shaders that make the WOFF Searchlights work [Nightsprite].

The 2016 version we're testing should have them for CFS3 too.

Hi!

My dll detects WOFF searchlights by texture name used for the light beam "object":
[Searchlight]
search_light.dds

This object is a very long cylinder (strictly speaking, truncated cone), which is aligned along negative X axis.
I'm not sure but I think they have modelled this cylinder to rotate as if it was gun barrel and track targets.
Originally it "fired shells" which caused target to be highlighted on hit, but it is no longer necessary with DX9 shaders -- they calculate real lighting for all aircrafts which come near the beam.

I don't know how ETO searchlights are made, so I can't help here.

Thanks AnKor and Andy!

I find the searchlights included in ETO are a little too dark, so I'm just thinking of using some that are brighter.

How they are made

The searchlights in cfs3 are cones that are about 8000 meters long. They are modeled as guns that fire to illuminate the plane. So if we know the texture used and the settings for the texture in the mesh, we could certainly model the same in cfs3.

Hi!

Andy, I tried your shaders and I'm still getting the same result. Ground is still too dark, and I'm still getting that bright white light on one side of the screen.

Tried disabling the shaders, it worked, but not the way I'm hoping. Is there way that I can make the night a little brighter?

I'm still having some difficulties with the searchlights though. I'm going to try and bring over the shaders.xml from WOFF, same with the D3D8.dll.

The lighting and searchlights look great in BoB, but for some strange reason, not ETO.

Sorry for all the questions.

Chris
