It's a real shame that more people have not done paints for the fsx version, as compared to the fs9 version..... I'd love for a Liberty Belle or a Champaign Lady...Now that would be great!!!!!!!
 
Witt, do the guns fire and are you able to drop bombs in the FSX B-17 from A2A? I have the FS9 set but not the FSX 17. Now that "combat" is being implimented in FSX it could be the time to get it if these features can or will work.

don't let that stop you doing a few yourself! It's not that difficult, even I can do it!
I never bought the B-17, so there's no point repainting it for me..
 
I did a bunch of repaints for the 401st bomber group for the WoPII B-17G A2A. If you guys like hit me up.

I did these by going through the list and trying to find ones with pics. I'm still in the process of doing more. I also attempted a Deenethorpe Airfield to fly them out of, but I had some problems with the ADE and I'm still tinkering with it. I used rapid share for now until I can figure out how to upload them to here. Here's some info on the 401st Bomber group.

I would love to see this nose art on the WOP B-17! I have no idea who, where or when this bird ... but the nose art is great in my opinion.

Here's another down I did of the Nine O Nine. I flew on the collings foundation version 4 times and wanted to fly her around in FSX.

Here's PakawalupII she flew 11 mission and was shot down by flak over Munster in September of 44. She was one of the first to land at Deanethorpe in 43

Here's Heaven can wait. Credited with 73 missions, including 67 successive missions without an abort. Damaged by flak and force landed in Sweden after mission to Politz 7 October 1944. Returned to Deenethorpe on 13 May 1945.

Shark tooth. There's no other pictures of her except for the nose art. I did this after a member at the A2A forums had contacted me asking me to do this bird. His farther in law was a pilot on her and the 401st bomb group was having a reunion and he built a simpit so the vets could fly the sim. It got big reviews and now the simpit and my textures are all going down to the 8th Air Force Museum. So that's pretty cool. Shark tooth flew 59 missions and was returned to the states to be scraped.

Please keep in mind, these are my first attempts at repaints and I started with the Nine O Nine because there wasn't one for the B-17G WOPII and from there I was contacted to do these for the 401st. So these are all armature.
 
Shylock - what issues are you having with ADE? I think I've got to grips with most of its foibles now, so I might be able to help... and in return, I might beg you for some repaints of bombers from the bases I've done/am doing. :icon_lol:

Well I dont have the delux version of FSX so that means no SDK. When I go to compile the airfields, they dont compile. Says directory to SDK failed. After speaking with scruffy about it he said I needed the SDK. I had did Deenethorpe and Bassingbourne and they didnt come out to well. With bassingbourne I had trees in the runway and wasnt level.

looks like you've done a lot of work here, great job.
One question however: why are your shots all so blurry? Is that your sim, or do your repaints look like this? It looks a bit as if you've saved the textures with mipmaps ON. When converting the files in DXTbmp, please make sure that this option is OFF, this will give you sharp textures.

Yes, unfortunately, you do need the SDK to compile. Your flattens and autogen removal service is done by creating a polygon (using the polygon tool, surprisingly!) and assigning it the type of Airport Background, Flatten, Exclude Autogen. You can also remove landclass if you like, I normally do. I've had a couple of airfields where that looks terrible, though, and I've ended up putting my own airfield background landclass poly in to cover the airfield as well.

If you want a look at some of the ones I've done, as examples, I'll upload the ADE files to the same directories that the sceneries are in?

Wow great work there Ian. Very impressive. Sorry I no longer have those ADE files I had did. After finding out I need the SDK I deleted them to free up some space during a PC cleaning I guess you can say.
 
Well Deenethorpe is still an active airfield and I'm trying to avoid overwriting those except in specific circumstances (e.g. turning Wolverhampton :bs: Airport back into Halfpenny Green), but it looks like Bassingbourn, which is currently owned by those of a green-skinned gun-toting nature, is distinctly more possible. According to Wonkypedia, they deliberately built it on a marsh to try and create mist that would camouflage the airfield! If that's true, someone in RAF planning needs to be sent for a swim in one of those lakes that now litter the place. ;)

Do you use the VFR scenery by just flight? Thats what imgoing to be using in a few weeks and Bassingbourne and Deenethorpe are there on the ground from the google earth image.
 
I use Virtual Earth to get a background texture using SBuilderX, then import that into ADE and build the rest (unless I have to do roads, railways or custom coastlines) using ADE.

I don't use photoscenery because I cannot stand the flatness of it, without any of the buildings, trees, etc, that you get in real life. On the odd occasions where some nutter has put the far-too-many-hours into creating custom autogen for photoscenery, however, then it looks fantastic. ;)

Thanks for the links and sharing your skins but when I tried the link for Nine'O'Nine I got a file not found error. Is it still available?
