World update V now available (1.17.3.0)

As Ray Charles said, "Here we go loopty-loo!" It took three tries to get the update to install, but it's finally past that stage and loading as I type. Download sizes in order were 5, 2, and 10GB. First try looped on the TBM, second on a set of "bigfiles" packs.

A few minutes later...
Nine packages in the Content Manager and I'm finally done. Why can't anything go smoothly anymore? :banghead:

For me, there was about a 1.3 GB update through the Microsoft Store, and another 5.25 GB update after launching the sim, and then the World Update: V content to download from the in-game marketplace, which is 3.53 GB.

This is now the second time in a row where the update didn't automatically show in the MS Store app for me, and when starting the sim, no update was initiated either. So to solve it again, I had to make sure to install the latest Windows update, rebooted the computer, and then had to press the "Check updates" button in the MS Store app a couple times again before it finally found it and initialized the update.

Except for not currently being able to install 21H1, I had pretty much the same experience. But I think it's just because we're both getting in on it so early. The times when I've either been redirected to the Store or found that the Store had already done the initial update, it was well after the update had gone public. This one just went public at 1500GMT or a little more than two hours ago as I type this.

As with the last updates: "I'll wait a couple of days". Hasn't failed me yet!

Just a reminder to all to check the Content Manager too, for the latest updates to what you might already have installed. I noticed a few pertaining to past World Update releases, as well as a couple Carenado updates.

This is just the Windows Store experience. I've had these problems with literally every game I've purchased from the Microsoft Store, beginning back in 2016 with Forza Horizon 3. The sole reason I purchased this game from Steam is because the MS/Xbox store is and always has been garbage.

Everything went smoothly here. MS store update and all the other steps. To be honest I never ever had any of the problems reported on updates. Probably been lucky...

That would be a LOT of data to both store and stream. I suspect he might have misspoken, but who knows...

I had it loop on one of the big pack twice but shutting down MSFS and restarting again eventually got past it OK.
It definitely annoying that it happens but at least it's possible to get round once you know how.

Went through my 18-point pre-update checklist and it must've helped, because I didn't have a single problem. (unlike the last three updates)

Just flew around Copenhagen and surrounding areas looking at castles, etc. The city looks gorgeous and brought back memories of the times I've visited there. So glad they didn't use photogrammetry for it. So far, this update seems promising.

Also went through without any hiccups for me.

Took the MB-336 for a spin around Isafjordur in Iceland which was simply stunning!

Downloaded and installed this morning. No problems at all!

EDIT: Steam

Nice scenery on this release, especially Copenhagen which appears to be photogrammetry even though not announced, Stockholm and Oslo. Some POI did not search for me including Yylisto, Turu, Brondby, Oresund Bridge, and Frederik Church. Avici was not in the POI list but is in the scenery. Much more scenery to explore.

Oh the irony. The computer I use for flight simming is dedicated to the cockpit. While I use Bitdefender on my other computers I do not use any 3rd party anti-virus software on the flight sim computer. Windows Defender, or whatever it is called is the only bouncer. So, I'll be danged if twice Defender objected to something in the two updates. Like they are both Microsoft. Doesn't the left hand know what the right hand is doing? I am sure one of you computer experts can tell me why MS doesn't trust MS. Anyway, I thought it was amusing.

The update went without a hitch. I even forgot to move the contents of the Community folder but that didn't cause any problems.

Hi John,

it's because Windows Defender was the first security product that M$ came up with and it wasn't too good to put it mildly. So after a lot of criticism, they made it a lot more sensitive to malicious code (virusses) but in the process creating a lot of false positives.

Also, because MSFS is actually third party code (by Asobo), it probably isn't signed as M$ code.

Cheers,

Priller
