WTH does "OT:" mean?

Hello:wavey:

A few years ago, I let humility aside and asked what LOL meant. Internet acronyms are not my forte. Being French-speaking, it is already tough enough to decipher subtle innuendos, with acronyms on top, it is next to impossible.

So, could someone kindly explain to me what brings Snuffy (and may be others), to constantly start his threads with that obscure "OT:"?

I thought it meant "off-topic" but, since NewsHawks is a general forum and since Snuffy's titles are for new threads, I must admit that I'm at a total loss here.:isadizzy:

Actually, I believe it does mean "off topic". Snuffy, and others may use it here to connote a subject far removed from flying or flight simulation.

LOL
normally it does mean off topic
but with snuffy who the hill knows:salute:
H

Starting a topic while being off of it...mmm...interesting concept.:kilroy:

I think Obio's "Off Thorazine" is the best one until now but, to cover all bases, I would say "Off Treatment"... there is a lot of "T" in pharmacology.:jump:

Happy to see that I'm not alone PIO (paddling in oatmeal).

Many thousands of years from now, as future, future, generations did for clues to our ancient (now current) civilization, they will unearth a teen-ager's cellphone. Once powered up, they will conclude by looking at the saved messages, that while we were technologically advanced enough to create the phone....we could only communicate in gibberish, with each sentence beginning with OMG !!

Personally I always thought OT stood for "Opinion Thread" since it seems to me he is looking for feedback on the topics he posts. Hopefully Snuffy will chime in and let us know.

I would agree with the most obvious interpretation (Off Topic) if the scope of NewsHawks forum wasn't so large;

Forum for Community news and announcements.

So, in its largest possible interpretation, if you are a member of the "community" and have a "news" to report or an "announcement" to make, you basically decide what is on or off topic. This is the generally accepted definition by the "community" itself if you glance at threads' topics.

As Roadburner440 says, only Snuffy could tell...:jump:

P.S.... and he did! Thanks for settling this highly existentialist question Snuffy.

Perhaps that is so ... but existentially, I think Newshawks, should/would/could be more Aero-flight centric information, rather than a hodge podge of just stuff as it is ... therefore more often than not if I post non Aero-Flight Centric information, (Or other non essential reading,) I usually do the O.T. thing ... to me that tells the other individual readers that there may be something in my post they may not want to waste their time on ... ;)

I'm just trying to help all the rest of ya'll to sort the clutter of your daily reading.

Now that I know what OT: stands for, the job should be indeed easier. But I will probably continue reading your threads and posts anyway, Snuffy...:173go1:

WTH does WTH mean? ;P
What The Hell do you need to know that Bjoern?

Of course, there is also the better known WT(letter between E and G in the alphabet), and I wont tell you what that one means...:kilroy:

I was kidding. Hence the ";P" smiley.

"WTF" is my preferred version 'though. On and off the 'net.
