WWI Tents

Hey All,

Well I'm working on another project. In between a couple others I'm starting on some WWI tents. here is a small list.

Small Wall Tent-AEF, Allies
Large Wall Tent-AEF, Allies
Pyramidal Tent-AEF,Allies
British Bell Tent
German Conical Tent
Austro-Hungarian Kuk Tent
French Conical Tent
Hospital Ward Tent
Marquee tent
Twin Marquee Tent

Right now I'm working on the British Bell tent. This might take a while as I'm doing a couple other things.

If anyone comes across any info let me know. I have all of the measurements but only a few good pictures. I only have drawings of the Marguee tents. So any extra would be appreciated.

Till Later,
John

I can't wait to get my personal PC up & running. John, did you ever contact Gary A. about his site? It would be great to get it updated especially in view of all the new neat stuff that you are coming up with.

Larry,

Whats Up Man!

No I didn't reach Gary, Yet. I've been working and trying to do these projects.

AER_DaddyO has been doing a few things as well. So there might be more coming and not just from me.

When you get your comp up and running let me know.

Till Later,
John

Textures...

Would someone like to do a texture or 2 for me.

I've tried doing a custom one but I don't like how its looking. What I need is the Ivory canvas color of WWI. Not the Gold of WWII. Although if you want to do the gold then I will make the Bell tent For WWII as well. It will also work for the SCW.

There are 4 that could be used.

inf_tent_large
inf_tents_round
or
tent0
Tent1
Which are the CFS1 tents. They are in the Main Texture folder.

I'll try to do them but right now I have too much going on.

If anyone is interested let me know or just show me what you have.

Till Later,
John

Here are the inf_tent_large, inf_tents_round, tent0 and Tent1 set to a white-ish color all of the texture now start with WWI_ (so inf_tent_large became WWI_inf_tent_large.bmp)

Note: WWI_inf_tent_large and WWI_inf_tents_round are packed as extened fromat with alphas and ready for use in CFS2. If you want to them to work in gMax they will need to be made into basic format bmps.

K Thank you Allen. I'll give them a run through. I was getting frustrated makeing a custom texture. My repaints were not coming out well either.

The edit was easy. Duplacte the stock image to a new layer and Gray Scale it. Add brightness 100 and Contrast 20. New layer that has the Ivory canvas color set to "Color" in PSP6. Cut the color layer and Gray Scale for any places that you need stock colors for things like doorways and wood post.

I have a WWI Bell Tent made from British specs, will dig for a pic in the AM, great to see this work underway.

Mine was for a train sim but from the WWI period..that canvas colour is a hard one to get right it actually has some blue and bit of green in the overall colour map most ppl make them too yellow. Tentage was essential for WWI, as few of the locations could provide "indoor" housing for the enlisted troops in enough quantity no matter what theatre it was. Amazing how much canvas could be provided but they were lucky for there were still many skilled craftsmen and lofts to make the needed canvas lingering from the days of sailing ships so they were called into service for tentage.

So I've taken the 4 pics and resized them to 512x512. Then I took them and made one 1024x1024 image. I've even used the Alpha channels.

I started texturing the model and was almost finished when I realized something was messed up. So I have to do that process over. Oh well...

I'll get pics after the Main LOD is finished.

Bell tent completed...

Man that was a PIA. I must have mapped the textures three times. I kept making little mistakes that I couldn't correct with out reloading my saved model.

Here is the finished pre compiled model.

WWI-tent.jpg

I have to do a damage model then it will be finished.

Looks good!

Ty Allen.

I still have a few things to adjust. Mostly with the doorway. I am please with the panel texturing. It has a flowing fabric look to it. I do need to look at the mapping a little. Its all minor.

Here are some in game pics.

Next I'm doing an open summer type. Only textured. I'll also do a WWII Gold/Tan Khaki colored. Not sure if they ever made them Olive drab.

Bell Tent 2

Here is the second British Bell Tent. This one has open sides. For those Hot summer days.

They look ok. Now to do the Other Tents.
