Xavier eawwii_full airfields problem...

Hi guys,
This has me stumped. My game was all hunky-dory until recently. I had added in the Xavier ww2 full airfields in order to accommodate Talons (RIP) missions requirements. Everything ran well then suddenly I started to get failures when starting "Free Flight' and 'Quick Combat'. I also started to get some strange files in my CFS2 main install folder. Such as "2A' , "23" etc. When opened in "notepad" These all seem to be in symbols involving SCASM. As such I was unable to interpret them but did see some reference to airfields in Cambodia.
Since none of my other installs have the Xavier fields and run perfectly I removed the Xavier fields from the PTO and now it runs as it should.
Here is the question has anyone else encountered this?

I had some problems with them also years ago.Thankfully I had an install with xaviers original airfields.Never had a problem with the older files. I still have the original AVG by Talon and they done before theXavier ww2 full airfields came out. I would say even in the newer campaign he used the older files. They are no longer available and I no longer have the orignal packages for them,I think they were broken down to -Burma,China,Thailand and Indochina.

200 airbases limit

Fibber,

There are 2 schools of thought on this.

Either a bad scenery bgl is generating these temp files each time cfs 2 is launched. I'm not convinced, Xaveirs full EAW was one of the first scenery add ons I ever used, & it never generated the behaviour you described.

Or you have more than 200 airbases installed, & CFS 2 is generating these files each time it's launched as a way of loading the "extra" scenery.

I saw the behaviour you describe after I tried to add some new airbases to a single install & it took the total list of installed airbases past 200. The only solution was to split them up & get them below 200 bases again. I think CFS 2 has a 200 airbase hard code limit, & the temp files are it's way of keeping the game scenery install cfg etc. from becoming corrupted & unusable. You should find you can fly missions perfectly well, it just affects QC & Freeflight?

Uncletgt.....

Thanks for the reply. Will take a look and see what I have. I was never aware of the 200 limit on the Airbase.dat as with MRs mods and the originals I know I was above that and it ran well. Only when I put in the Xaviers 2006 mod did this start.
On a side question (but related) on Xaviers fields populated ie; buildings, trees, etc., or just plain airfield layout and location? Was never sure about that.

Fibber,

Just re-read my earlier response and realised it wasn't very clear.

CFS 2 ships with 200 Airfield entries. What I meant was I had added about 200 more to that, giving a total of c.400 airfield AFDs.

Never could work out if it was just the AFD entries it was counting up, as whenever I added scenery I never bothered to add to the airbases.dat, as I was mostly using the install for test flights of new paintwork, or dabbling with my own scenery projects.

It was after I had completed the Aleutians base work & I started to remake the Carolines & New Britain airbases to match the new scenery I was working on, & I found they wouldn't show in the QC or Freeflight indexes. Spent lots of time looking at FSSC etc., then I looked in the CFS 2 directory & found the same file entries you describe.

I created a fresh install & added my Truk scenery to it - the new airbases showed up just fine, & no funny files showing in the CFS 2 directory.

Concluded I'd crossed a hard-code limit for total AFD entries somehow...
