Yak-18 BETA.....you need to see it to believe it!

New Yak-18 (beta)

I got an email this morning from Alexander (aka SWingman) of Grumman Duck J2F fame letting me know that he had uploaded a new Yak-18 (beta) to avsimrus.com

In today's mail, I got a package from Swingman. A BETA version of the Yak-18. For a BETA this thing is simply STUNNING. Remember how we all went goo goo gaa gaa over his Ducks.....well, that experience will pale in comparison to what you all will go through when you see his Yak-18. It is stellar in every way....clicklable VC with lots of working functional clickies, stunning pilot figure with great animation, the external modeling is as sweet as the VC modeling.

And...he gave me the green light to upload the package here. So I will. Remember, this is a BETA! The final package is yet to come.

You will have to do some copy and pasting of files from the first texture folder into the other 2 or 4 texture folders. But other than that...it is ready to fly and fly with your jaw on the floor.

It's up here at SOH....I uploaded it with Swingman's permission. I am already working on some tweaks for the plane.

The engine will not stay running with throttle pulled all the way back. To fix this, copy this line and paste it in place in the aircraft.cfg file's GeneralEngineDate section:

min_throttle_limit = 0.100000

Shockwave Lights:

No, the Yak-18 is an FS2004 plane. When I was uploading the package, my two dogs were laying in my lap and Brutus, my 12-pound monster, was pawing at my right hand (my mouse hand) wanting me to rub his chest. I goofed up the upload. I have already sent a PM to the SOH Librarian asking him to move the package to the FS2004 Aircraft section of the library.

Hey, this is a nice airplane. :) And unlike most FS9 planes you don't need to maintain back pressure on the stick to keep it from nosing toward the ground. Level off, take your hand off the stick and it flies along just fine with no trim adjust.
 
Yeah, this is one superb sim model...in all aspects: modeling, texturing, FDE, animations. And this is JUST Swingman's 2nd sim aircraft! His 2nd! He has been doing 3d modeling for other things for a while obviously, but to come out with the Duck as his first sim project, and to follow it up with the Yak-18....can't wait to see what he produces next!

As I can't get on with the differential brake stearing, I unlocked the tailwheel and set the appropriate cfg value to 45.000.

Of course I had to take it into FSX. . . .no problems at all. . . .well, unless you count the fact that I couldn't get it above 50kts and finally set it down in a pasture after flying about a mile at treetop level. Is there a trick to maintaining enough speed to actually fly?

Hey, I'm with ya on that one Stuart. . . .freeware or payware, all my airplanes get that little tweak immediately.:salute:
 
FSX users...don't despair. This is the BETA of this package. Swingman does his initial work in FS9 due to the speed of exporting, but he does have the FSX SDK, is familiar with spec and bump mapping, dds texture formatting and plans to have the plane fully functional in both sims. Just be patient....good things come to those who wait.
