YF-23 Beta Testing In Multiplayer

Well Cag40Navy the F-22 is actually going to be the F-22A production bird and not the YF-22. From everything that I have read through research and all the F-22A is much improved over the YF-22. Areas where the YF-23 was better such as speed and climb have been fixed in the production F-22A to where it is a much better aircraft. Of course a lot of this is speculation because the only numbers out there are the unclass numbers. It leaves a lot to the imagination in terms of what these aircraft may have actually been capable of. Cause I find it hard to believe that in the years since the SR-71A was developed in the 60's that we haven't advanced past that with the technologies we have today.

Well, I met the F-22 Demo Pilot at Lackland last year, and he said that there were software limits imposed on the F-22's to protect the pilots from GLOC or ALOC, and that it is capable of much more than what has been done so far. He said that it was also something that could be only unlocked on the ground pre-flight and not in the air.
 
Sure looks like a hell of an effort was put into this model.Not that I was ever interested in such wird , ugly futuristic looking airplanes, ever.I may tolerate the Raptor a tad more but not with much. I have a comment about the vc texture. Sure ,it,s all black and such but Diego has a point in saying that looks like an old Iris VC. Aerosoft F16 has the best reproduction of a black cockpit material.It has texture and a bit of light reflection,it looks good and real.You guys may want to take a look at that..I don,t know,just a suggestion..Is it gonna be a payware ? If it is, I hope it,s worth the effort.
 
Ya. There was a ton of changes going from YF-22 to F-22, but its also safe to assume that the F-23 would of gone through similar changes. The biggest one would of been thrust vectoring I think. That was the prime reason the 23 lost to the 22, was the lack of thrust vectoring. The feathers on the back of the YF-23 work like the turkey-feather's on most jets today, to constrict the flow of air, not vector the thrust. Also, the YF-23 didnt have any weapons bays on the prototype, were the YF-22 did. From what research I did, the ATF race was the closest race ever between two aircraft in US history, but it all came down to a few details that the YF-22 had, and demonstrated, that the YF-23 only promised.

I still think the 23 looks the best, but I have always been a Northrop Fanboy since the P-61 and B-35!!!

I was actually going to post photos of the Aerosoft VC. For the price FSD is asking, I'd picture something close to the Aerosoft quality, but I already knew the response..."They are different planes, different cockpits"

I'll just wait and see

If you like the YF-23, any chance we'll see the T-50 if it ever takes off? It's sure to be one ugly bird.
 
Northrop Grumman is a good company. I like more Grumman aircraft than anything else. Favorite Lockheed bird has to be the P-38. As far as the VC quality of the YF-23 I would say it is on par with anything else. It looks new and shiny just like I would expect a test and eval aircraft to look. All the knobs, buttons, and labeling is crisp and legible. I just wish I had a chance to see some of these aircraft in person. Even being in the military I don't get to see most of these planes.

If there is a market for it, yes. The main issue is these aircraft take months of man hours to build. Thats a lot invested, so we need to make sure we can recover the expenditures. Im sure that if the YF-23 "takes off" and sells well, you will see more things like it. Supply and demand.

I meant if the T-50 ever takes off, but I guess both take-offs are needed for it to happen.

Looking forward to getting this one, I need something to trim the trees of Kalifornia with :).

As in the PBY? That cockpit is simply breathtaking. Then again it took them years to make that, and appropriately cost's more. Im sure the YF-23 could be made to that level, but would the market support such expenditures?

With Aces closing, the add-on market took a beating. Things are improving, but its REALLY hard to justify such an investment on an unknown. As stated in other threads, the YF-23 is a fast fun ride, and is sold at a lower price. If you truly want in insane level of detail in the cockpit, stick with the F-15 thread. It may be more up your alley.

I lived in Cali most of my 30 years on this planet. I loved riding my motorcycle up and down Angles Crest Highway. Not that far from Edwards AFB! Only a few mins on full burner, and you can be buzzing those canyons! I did it myself. I even found ACH! Just for the heck of it, I broke the sound barrier over my old place in Glendale. Maybe brake a few windows in the process.
 
Being test and eval aircraft these birds were treated with kid gloves, and kept in the best shape. Once the contest was over according to records they were barely used after that and kept at NASA's research center before being turned over to museums. The YF-23 is pretty much an entry level project that packs a lot for the dollar. I will get some more pictures of the VC up in a better light setting. In the mean time here are some of the very few that exist of the real deal.

wow ,thanks for the info. you think you can let us in on who is buying your F-22 and if it is for FSX?
 
The F-22 will be on the same level of detail as the F-15. The buyer shall remain anonymous at this point. We will start getting more details out on those birds once the YF-23 and P-38 clear the hangar doors.
 
As far as I can tell from all of the panel and switch illustrations in the flight manual, all the stuff is there, it just looks a bit bare bones in comparison to cockpits that usually are stuffed chock full of afterthoughts.

The PBY cockpit is fill of a hodge podge of worn stuff, a virtual feast for the modeler and texturer. It's about like the difference between an accurate visual model of a 1930's cabinet radio and a modern flat screen TV.....

Thrust vector, a feature made to compete with aircraft such as the Sukhoi SU-30. Whether in an actual combat environment the simpler system might be better is an unknown.
