Douglas C-47 v3 Livery Thread

Just a quick question and a screenshot. I fly for FSEconomy and it seemed "wrong" to fly the C47 in military livery from civilian gravel strips in Alaska so I did my own fictional N-Number repaint.

thumbnail_zpsjpcr5l2x.jpg

One thing I noticed, though. When looking out from the VVC over the nose the blue color does not appear. I see the rivet details and the nose, but it is a "brown" color, not blue. Is that texture located somewhere else for me to color?

Randy

noseout.dds is the file you want, it's in the aircraft's texture folder.
Colour it as you wish and then add it to your repaint folder.

The repaint(s) works just fine with V2 - all you have to do is change the 'sim=' and 'model=' entries in the Aircraft.cfg file for the repaint. For V2, it should be modified to 'sim=Douglas_DC3_v1.2' and 'model=C47_2' (for the non-Rebecca Antenna model - assuming that's why you're using the V2 version).

Adobe Creative Cloud

That's one cool paint. Well done for sticking with it:encouragement:

I downloaded 1.35gb of PS Elements 14 yesterday on a 30 day trial to see if it could open PSD's done with later versions of PS. Unfortunately.. it does not.. not without loosing layers. This surprised me a bit. I'd have thought Adobe would have maintained a certain amount of commonality between their newest products but in the end.. it seems that if you want to get into a PSD made with a later 'high end' program, Adobe would rather you buy that program!!
It does open ok in CS2 mind you;)

You can get a 30day free trial subscription to Creative Cloud that contains the latest Photoshop. They don't even sell anymore but by subscription only on a monthly auto deduction from a credit/debit card. You can cancel it though before that starts and the trial ends. I have to use Adobe Muse for my Christian Radio Station web site design and changes starting with them as a beta tester. Would you believe that EVEN the beta testers were not given a copy or subscription after helping them develop the program for a year. Thanks for all your help now where is the money if you want to continue to use it. Needless to say I am not an Adobe fan but as you say you get locked in when that is what designers use whatever field not just flightsim. Enough preaching on the soapbox. LOL.

Painted that hinge just a few minutes ago. I will be uploading to the Warbird Library to share this paint later. Been working on final NAS Alameda all day. Thank you for your pointing out the skips.

Da upper hinge

Funny, I just finished painting my upper hinge orange in the North Dakota ANG repaint and notice unless the actual aircraft did not paint it that your upper hinge is not painted white. Just a help not a criticism. Its at the top of C47_1_T not on C47_2_T where I thought it would be since the door is on that section.

Randy

She is spot on for what I am looking for too Ramjett53 -an "N" civi paint that is not tied up with an airliner of some sort...

Would it all be possible to get a copy when she is done please?

Regards,
Tim

That helped thanks, Now I have shiny and not so shiny Nats birds. :encouragement:

Only thing is, these are in the V2 folders thus I don't get the VVC panels. I tried to located the V3 of the Maam version in V3 folder but call on the V2 model and was hoping for the vvc cockpit
but that didn't happen. Least not for me.

your upper hinge is not painted white

Yep, nor is the lower hinge dark blue. Been playing with it to get things lined up because there are three subtle shades of blue that cross it. And, to be sure, I take absolutely no offense that you pointed this out. I too noticed it. It's what helps make a repaint better, so always a good thing.

Would it all be possible to get a copy when she is done please?

Absolutely Tim. I'm still working on finer points...notably the hinges, the nose, nacelles and cowls, and after downloading "Miss Virginia" and seeing that shine, getting the metal unpainted parts looking shiny as well.

Randy

Stuck in a rut with this one....getting painted silver to look right....it's all about the spec.

Makes a change when messing with polished metal is actually easier.

But I've managed to finish the 3 Qantas vers....so they'll be uploaded shortly...;)

So true! It is very difficult to make virtual aluminium paint which doesn't look like grayish plastic..... I advise you to take a look at YoYo's MAAM repaint. I think he has captured it quite well.

Good luck :encouragement:

Yes, great paint to be sure...but not quite what the RAAF one is....

What I tried to say is that aluminium dope is normally not very glossy. Spec maps make repaints glossy especially on this model. So when you use white, or nearly white for the on the spec map for the aluminium part they most likely don't look that "plastic".

But its a real challenge and as you have to load the aircraft after every adjustment very time consuming. There are 4 inputs (texture, spec map and an alpha layer on both of them), which all have an effect on each other it is hard to get the most authentic look.

Cheers,
Huub

The white's not the problem...it's just white. It's that silver-blue that needs to flare in spec although relatively flat in alpha [gloss].
I'm rethinking the whole methodology....remember...this is without full layers...as I don't have PS....other than PE5....so a bit of lateral thinking is used.
Here's a screenie of my 'workbench'...;)

But I agree glossy and shiny textures are much easier................ :biggrin-new:

The sad thing about this repaint is that the owner (Dutch Dakota Association) is currently trying to sell this aircraft as they don't have the resources to keep it airworthy.....

V 3 MAAM non rebecca

Thanks YoYo for the Gray Maam Livery. I managed to incorporate it within V3 folders with out the Rebecca Gear (No Whiskers) :biggrin-new:

Good to hear that You like it and finally converted it ! : )

Mr. Terrell's post of favorites lit the fuse for...

WIP: Drag-Em-OOt

I made a special interior for this one, darkening the green to olive and using the black seats and quad. I deepened the color of the yoke and did a bunch of other tweaks. The real airplane has a black "stretch" seat cover, which I may take a stab at before I release the skin.

Quite a few small details yet to be tweaked for the exterior, but she's coming into focus.
