I just DL and installed P3D PTA.... Gonna give that a whirl... If it doesn't do what I like, I will grab the other. I thought the shot depicted LON perfectly though... Dreary enough for sure....

For JAFO re the TAA 50th Anniversary Livery

Jafo the mystery of the logo is revealed (via PPrune). A gentleman there has a colour slide of the insignia and he says it was:

"The insignia you describe is a red Kangaroo on a boomerang. On the boomerang, it says ' Kings Tours' in white letters and underneath '25' (in red) 'Years of Travel' (in white) below on the surrounding red ring.."

I have not located a picture of it. So there we go not sure if he can post a copy of the slide but will ask if it helps. Seems kangaroos were all the rage as logos then, TAA used a red roo and well Qantas still do. Cheers

WOW....fantastic ....thanks for that.. If I could somehow get my hands on the slide pic I'll be able to 'complete' that TAA paint properly.

In the interim I'll see how far I get via your description. At least I'd got it right re the roo and the '25'.

Yes, roos are synonymous with Aussie Aviation....probably to do with them being both 'iconic' AND seemingly flying when they bound...;)

Here's the Canadian one....coming along reasonably OK....still gotta find a higher-res image of the "Austin" though....

Jafo, Austin Airways looks great! Thanks so much for taking this one on, really looking forward to it. This can't be an easy paint to pull off...very grateful for your effort.

Taa dc-3 aeq

The only thing I can say its a bit wrong on one level as the anniversary was for the Bleriot flight in 1914 the England-Singapore-Australia airmail was not done till much later so any 50th Anniversary would have to have been at least in the late 1970's or early 1980's. Still thats what they painted on the old DC-3 so that is what it was. As for Dawson scotch whiskey, never heard of it, but every one once new about Bovril.

Looks like I have quite a bit more to do.
Yours is the first photo actually showing the left side as also being painted. It was assumed from what's out there that only the right side was.
On the upside...I wasn't too far away with the 'King's Tours' ...;)

I had to draw it [naturally] but I think this'll do for 'King's Tours'.

Of course....apart from the left side to do....Bovril and all ....the new pics have shown up some more details out of whack....so it's gonna be a while....

I've been looking at doing the left side to 'match' the right side.....and looking at the photos....and comparing them with yours.....unless I'm mistaken either the plane was repainted...or 2 different people each painted their own side...without too much comparing of notes.

The '0' in the '50' is definitely different....as is the entire font of 'anniversary etc'....and yes....the spacing between 'singapore' and 'england' is different to fit the door....but why the heck is it so much higher above the 'cheat line' [colour stripe along windows]?

Either someone said....let's paint both sides the same....but different.. or one side or other is indicative of a 're-do' ....;)

Dunno what to do about it now..... not until I hunt down The 'Myopic Twins' - Painting Team and find out for sure...;)

.....and cut that pesky wing off so I can see the rest of the sponsor graphics....

In the meantime I've uploaded the Austin Airways C-FAAM.
Get yer flares on and your ox-blood shoes....it's retro 70's time....[looks like]

C-FAAM [cn:9862] was built as a C-47A-DL - 1943. Registered to Austin Airways of Timmins, Ontario in 1976, as a DC-3C. Still with this airline when it was purchased by Air Ontario, their registration (as a DC3C-S1C3G) cancelled on 17 January 1989
crashed (damaged beyond repair) in an accident near Bronson Creek, BC, Canada 14 Jan 1993 operating for Central Mountain Air Services.
