Fixes for the Shupe/Carroll FSX native Beech 18

Hi all
A note to any of the Prepar3D users out there.
Still experiencing starter switch difficulty when using this Beech 18 in prepar3D (latest) while everything else seems to work properly. In reading about suggested solutions to similar issues with the AC-500 by Mr Shupe I've been playing with values for normalized_starter_torque and idle_rpm_friction_scalar. With the first set at .281 and the second set at .800 I've actually been able to effect a manual start without resorting to "Control + E". The sequence does not work perfectly a manual start of both engines is a great step forward for me.
And for Bjoern - no I have no idea what I'm doing - confirmed by many instructors over the years.
In any case - a great airplane - to be made even better once it can carry cargo - Thanks!

Beech 18

I'd like to ask.

Where is Milton's latest ported over Beech 18S aircraft for FSX?. I don't seem to be able to find the file download of the plane or it's latest version. I'm wanting to try a few of the paints available here at the outhouse.
I thought I had the model, but I'm not finding it in my FSX files.

Maybe someone here could provide me with the zip file location from the library.

THX

Hi
Not sure if this is much help but if you type d18svc4.zip into Avsim the 2004 version comes up with what I think is the link to the port over FSX version. Both the Shupe / Carroll update and the further updated version by my friend Bjoern can be found by reading through this very thread.
Hope this helps at least a bit.

Thanks for the reply.

I saw the zip file you are referring to at Avsim.com There are three other files in that download. I am still a user of FSX with Acceleration. One of the paints I'm wanting to try is in the skins download files. The name of the paint is Magic by Moonlight for Milton's D-18S model.

I might want to wait and see if Milton might chime in here, as to the file name of the D-18S I need that already has all the updates in the download, beyond the port over version model for FSX etc. The one that's on avsim now, my be an older version etc.

Hi George,

It may surprise you to know that I do not follow these upgrades that others have done (with permission) to my aircraft. I do not fly them; I do not fly my own except when testing. Too busy with new projects to actually enjoy the fruits of my, or others, labors. :) Sorry that I can't answer your question.

There's two flavor of Milton's D18S. One is the original FS2004 model and the other is the FSX native model by Dave Carroll and updated by me. Repaints for one will not work on the other due to a different fuselage texture mapping, so it is strongly advised to study the readme delivered with the repaint to find the correct model. If said repaint does not specifically mention dave or my name, you may assume that it is for Milton's FS9 model.

If the file you are asking about is the one I have, it's by Tom Stovall, and is for the Dave Carroll converted native FSX model.

Beech 18

I found the older ported over model I would need for the paints in question. The Beech 18 that did work was this one: b18DC05.zip I found it at the flightsim.com website. This ported over version was done a few years ago. I'm not sure if this on has been updated further since than etc.

George, That file, d18DC05 is the Dave Carroll native FSX conversion we are all talking about. It is the one needed for the "Magic By Moonlight" file by Tom Stovall, depicting the Matt Younkin "Moonlight Magic" airshow performing Beech D18S, N9109R.

Beech 18

Thanks Don. I got the paint added. Maybe in the future. Between Milton and Carroll, could perform all there magic, would do an update to this particular Beech 18.

question

Bjoern, are you still working on this? I would like to see your work and Falcon's panel. I know time can be precious.

At the moment, no. The D18S is on my laptop, but since I'm at home till june, I spend my time exclusively on my PC - and with other FSX projects.

Bjoern, thanks for the quick answer. Maybe something down the line. I always appreciate your work.

Hello Bjoern,

It's mid june ;)

I am spending time flying (and enjoying) your version of DS18S and the newly updated D18S Amphib by Milton Shupe.

With the D18S, I have much more difficulties to trim her steady, but when I compare the air files and the aircraft.cfg, I don't see any significant variations between both. Of course, the floats should introduce an aerodynamic significative difference. Is it in the model and is there a way to improve this "instability" of the D18S.

In the internal model, it would be nice to give the ability to hide the yoke, like in the Amphib version.

Thank you for your work on this lovely plane and the fun she gives me.

I am unable to edit my last post, but I wanted to say that I am getting better control of the stability of the D18S (specially in turn and bank).

This was the pilot fault, not the aircraft ;)

Sorry and thank you again.

Well, you're out of luck regarding any (loose) deadlines on my part. I've got a new occupation and after-work socializing with my new peers is much more important than slaving away on my laptop.

Yoke visibility: Allez chercher votre dictionnaire anglais et lisez le fichier readme!

Congrats on the new job! Real world always takes priority over the virtual. :encouragement:

Vous trouvez que mon anglais est si détestable :)
En fait, j'avais lu les (nombreux) readme, sauf le bon !

Merci et bonne socialisation...

Bjoern - Thanks for this work. I had posted a query on the FP D18 started by Milton about my confusion about the D 18 which was which but I had figured out yours was the definitive update so that is the one that I settled on. Looks great and works really well, thanks. Seems Milton has decided to now work the wheeled version into an FSX Native version.
