POSTED! New B-25C/D, Skins & Kit

Feeling a bit like Elmer Fudd here....VEWWY FWUSWATED!! Using Pen's method I have tried to add 12 bomb group markings to the vertical stabs, but I just can't get them to behave. Even the slightest variation sends me off the map. After 10 tries this is my latest (and probably my worst). Anybody want a crack at this?

Howdy Rav.;

Read them again. I think you're doin' it backwards..

You've got to paint from the Hinge to the outer edge of the surface you're working with. That's why the directions have the line about leading and trailing edges as well as the pixel reference to the corner of the box you've got to work with. If the reference says Top Right Corner that maeans your workspace is to the Left and Below that point. With this one you've got to work from the Center (the hinge) outward.

Hang in there, you'll get it.

I have...

...learned and tested for basic soundness a method to have the two separate parts (vstab and rudder) take a single texture map at a 1:1 scale, i.e. the placement and scale issue for repainting those areas will be totally eliminated. I will redo the MDL file when I get back from my short rest period. At the same time, I will apply the same process with the wings/ailerons/flaps. :engel016:

Though I am not (and have no desire to become) an expert texture guy, I have been forced to...correction, suckered into...learning some tricks of that trade due to my unlimited empathy for the agony and suffering of my fellow CFS2 aficionados.....he said with tongue planted firmly in cheek. :costumes::costumes:

And your diligence and efforts will be greatly appreciated, Sir. :ernae:

Yes,...

What the hell was David thinking when he and the boys stayed at the Alamo! Of course, the majority of the 'Texicans' were Tennessee transplants as well. We'll never live it down. :caked:

Rav, a simple option

Until such time as I get a viable solution posted, you might consider the simple option: confine your tail numbers and insignia to either the vstab or rudder without trying to spread them over both. :wiggle:

This is not inaccurate historically, as many units had only the last three digits of the serial number displayed on the vstab or rudder. The same is true for the squadron insignia.....in fact, the vast majority had no such markings at all.:wavey:

Yep, in desperation I tried that on the last try. The above was the result! Nevertheless, I'll try again tomorrow. Now I know how Sisyphus felt!

Grumpy is trying to get me into the local CFSA (Combat Flight Simulator Anonymous) chapter. He's threatening an intervention, if I don't come to the next meeting. I can hear it now: My name is Tango and I'm a FlightSimAholic. :friday: He'll be my partner, the guy I call at 2AM as I'm losing the battle with the craving and am about to reinstall. :help:

Hey TR;

What is the Diameter of the Lower Turret in your Regular C/D MDL?

I'm gonna recreate Pappy's Drop Tank for the C-1 and they fit it to the hole left by the removal of the turret.

But that's a great idea. It can double as the retractable radome for the Peanut Butter & Jelly. :jump:

No Rush TR,

We've been without a really good B-25C/D for 9 years, a few hours/days/weeks..... ain't gonna make squat ,ya know.

Just a little Icing for the Cake. If I can find some good photos of the Regular Bomb Bay Tank I'll probably do that too. And maybe some .30 Cal gun tubes for the later C-1's that'll stick out the rear side windows......

Oh, before I forget, one other measurment would be helpful, the height of the fuselage at the Fore/Aft center of the lower turret. I don't want to make it too tall.

...2.902 feet for the diameter of the ventral turret, and 7.25 feet for the height of the fuselage at the centerpoint of that turret. :kilroy:

Some Photo-shop help...

Hey y'all, ...

I found a similar panel here at SOH (pbj-b25.zip by 39th_Led)
that had a little more room, ...

...But it has some alpha pin-holes that show through...

Anyone out there that can fix the "michell.bmp"?

Thanks in advance.

Just uploaded...

....some nice texture upgrades by Sopwith:

- Green Dragon fuselage and stab BMPs

- Dirty Gerty stab BMP

- Hari-Kari-Er stab BMP

They should be in the que tomorrow....

It just keeps getting better for us B-25 aficionados. :engel016:

I don't have the time to fix it at the moment.... but I can point you in the right direction....

The pin holes are caused by areas that are colored pure black on the .bmp. The only bits that should be pure black are the window areas.

To fix, simply use a paint program - MS Paint might even do it - and color those pin hole areas a very dark Grey or match the surrounding color.

The cause may be due to some color loss during compression. Indeed it may have happened whist zipping them up after the author had completed his testing - he/she may not even be aware of the problem....

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks A, ...

...That did the trick.

Used MS Paint.

The mistake that I was makin' was going through DXTBmpx first.

It would fix it, ...the save it as a 7meg .bmp, ...instead of the original 472k.

I thought it used a special format that I needed, ...but didn't have.

...Now, ...to fix the jagged panel bars on the _OH P-39...

Thanks again Pete.

PS. The trick I use is:
1. pick the primary (left mouse) color as true green (or any high vis color), ...and the secondary (right mouse) color as pure black.
2. "select all" then "copy" the entire .bmp.
3. "delete the entire selected .bmp. (which will leave you w/ a black square.)
4. "fill" (bucket) paint the square primary (true green)
5. "paste" the saved .bmp back onto the square.
6. select clear see-thru alpha (the bottom button)

Now, ...all the pure black in the .bmp is now true green.

Pencil in the pin-holes, ...then "fill" the true green areas back to pure black.

This also works to swap or change any one color to another.

Note: It will change ALL of that color, ...so be careful w/ blacks and greys.

Enjoy.

No worries mate.

Yeah, panels are different from normal textures with alpha channels.... it sorta does it for you using the pure black bits.

Glad you got it sorted :jump:

Hey SC, that looks great !! well done !!
