Sim Skunk Works FRF-104 released

Just installed this after slowly getting back into FS after a few years out, couple of things I've noticed based on the manual and tutorial videos on YouTube:

Minor nuisance first:
Pressure suit switch and fresh air scoop switch/lever - both inoperable in the current build (1.3.9.1), going by the video linked in post #40 both were once functional.

Main issue:
Having a hard time getting it to taxi - probably a settings issue on my part as its something I've encountered elsewhere, not fired up MSFS in a few months though so can't recall the appropriate fix/setting.
I've got "Set Nosewheel steering to limit" and nosewheel steering axis" set up such that they work just fine for other aircraft, doesn't seem to have any effect in this case however. I can't see any reference to NWS in the current manual however I do recall having to use a command linked to the cat launch bar in FSX to activate/deactivate, not sue if that's still the case though it didn't seem to make any difference when I tried it.

I've also got an infuriating issue that whenever I try to alter settings to resolve the above (so far without success), that on exiting the menu the engine shuts down for no reason whatsoever.

Latest build is January so perhaps side effects of the recent updates?

Not sure if this will solve your issue but there was a document in the original FSX model called "zipper for dummies" > Not sure if that document is still in the docs file nor whether this key assignment is still relevant but :

NOSEWHEEL STEERING ENGAGEMENT
o To engage/disengage steering assign a key stroke or joystick button (preferred) to "TOGGLE LAUNCH BAR" FSX event (suggested "button 4" on joystick)
o
Steering will auto disengage when airborne.

Yeah, gave it a shot but no effect. think the "for dummies" has been replaced with "frf104g_hints", doesn't have anything in it referring to NWS though.
Given the lack of info I'd take that to mean there are no special requirements to get the 104 to steer, in my case it just wont. Going to take a look at the flight model later on tonight, though I'd imagine if there were issues there someone else would have raised the issue already..

We need a canopy mod that removes the scratches from the external view. I tried just about everything I know to remove them, but was unsuccessful. I think this is overdone and needs to be much clearer.Canopy .jpg

SSW needs to address this in the next update, and hopefully they will. They designed a beautiful airplane that flies really well, it’s a shame that the canopy glass is so beat up. Which isn’t realistic except for maybe a neglected one sitting on a pole or out in the weather on display.Canopy Scratches.jpg

It's now started working by itself. Spent much of last night going through the flight model looking for anything amiss, changed nothing, fired up the sim and its working fine.
Do you get full animation of the nosewheel moving lock-to-lock ? On mine it only moves slightly and the turning circle is very wide?

The nosewheel is locked by default Richard. I think it's shift+U to unlock though you might like to check that.

To be honest I haven't had time to fly at all for nearly two months, finishing up for Christmas in a couple of days though so will fire it up then and get back to you.

For my part, by default, the nose wheel turns slightly, like for Richard.
I don't have very sophisticated equipment, a simple old Thrustmaster Hotas X.
The front wheel moves by turning the stick left or right.

Found this video on Utube which is fantastic to watch but of pertinence to this thread - check out minute 9.22 for a good illustration of Starfighter nosewheel steering!
