SkySimulations DC-9 for 20 and 24

The DC-9 is a nice one! Needs some fixes, but overall, well done SkySimulations. And easy to repaint.

First try of a real one of 1997. I did it because my name is in the registration. Some work on composite´s is needed. Its FS2024.

The red Condition lever may be the culprit. If you have the same mindset as trying to lean out a piston engine, don't. With most planes, especially the PT6 stuff that most in-sim t-props have, that lever is at ground idle any time it's not in the air. It goes to full when you take the active and stays at the firewall until touchdown. Only the power and prop get used in the air. The only stock t-prop that's different is the TBM, and the single lever that it uses is a completely different animal.
 
Between the opinions expressed here and the lambasting that it's getting over at the official forum, it's clear that this one needs work. There's no need to close the thread, especially since painters are getting involved, but I'm pulling the sticky status early. Hopefully the devs can get this one up to standards sooner than later.
 
I’ve read through that thread and also the one at AVSIM. I hope we don’t have to follow the mob mentality posted there by folks that clearly don’t have the plane. That isn’t happening here.

I bought it at Simmarket and had install issues followed by the 2024 version disappearing from my account. Simmarket promptly responded to my issue and fixed it. It’s running in both sims for me.

It isn’t perfect. It is a DC-9. It is substantially better modeled than the FSX and P3D versions. I really like the VC which was poor in the earlier versions. I hope we start to see a bunch of paints.

We’ve seen addons killed by these mobs that just want to boost their post count. SkySimulations said they have worked on this for 18 months and I sure hope they are ultimately successful with it.

The SkySimulations DC-9 is in my opinion a very good and system-deep airplane, but you have to deal with it. And this is the most problem.

There are a lot of users who think “hey I fly Fenix to perfection, I can fly all the airplanes” - they will certainly be disappointed, because they will simply be overwhelmed.

The DC-9 has good interior and exterior sounds. The ground handling is great in the cockpit, but like many other add-ons, it tends to overshoot from the outside if you don't adjust the taxiing speed.

I had quite a few problems with the AP when it came to vertical control. It always did things that I didn't expect despite reading the manual. But after a few flights, you know how to operate the “automatic” flight. The autopilot actually only provides support, so you should keep an eye on the engine settings, the correct trim and the pitch of the AP is really important.

The set altitude is ignored. It does not serve the AP but only gives a visual indication that the altitude has been reached. You then have to use your own hands to level out - i.e. via the AP pitch. Once you have understood these things, flying with the AP is actually fun.

But there are a few things where I'm not sure whether it's an operating error on my part or a bug. The fuel system is one such example. It can happen that the engines switch off in flight, even though the crossfeed and pumps are actually set correctly according to the manual and are also working. The engines can be restarted in flight via the APU, but this is no longer a feature, but a killer. It's fair to say that. But regardless of whether I've set something wrong or it's a bug, it should be transparent, and in my opinion SkySimulations has to deliver quickly.

The APU also causes problems for me. The start/stop switch is not programmed correctly, because you can't click Stop.

But that's all the inconsistencies. I don't start from Cold & Dark at the moment, so I don't have any problems with the engines suddenly stalling.

By the way, I think it's so good that I'm even doing repaints - the next one will be a US Navy C-9B, I'm just trying to figure out which one I'm going to do.

Yes, but PBR is not easy to do due of shading system of both MSFS and 2024. But now it looks great to me.
