Major frustrations.... No Sound

So... Monday afternoon, I was surfing the web and pow... Power goes out. Problem was my system was waiting for a reboot to update windows. Power came back after 30 seconds or so but I waited a couple of minutes to see if it would go back out which it didn't. So I hit the power button and the computer rebooted and began to update windows... And the power went off again about a minute later. Damn... Well 3 hours later when the power came back on. (A line came off the pole at the end of my street) I rebooted again and it said the update failed (Like I expected it to) and I reinstalled the update.

And now I have no sound... sorta. I get the message "No Audio Device Is Installed" But occasionally my speakers will spit a 1/4 a second of sound randomly when I load a program.

I've reloaded drivers, run repair programs, rebooted a dozen times and still no joy. And oh yeah, FS 2020 crashes to desktop after I load the world map every time so I can't even run developer mode to play with any scenery for something to do. I ordered a USB audio card and that came in and did NADA. Short of trying to find a local repair shop, any ideas?

Look´s that your PC was hurt by power off/on .... you might just need a new GPU , if it happens often i suggest you get a power UPS unit too.

Can you revert to a recovery time and date before the power outages? I had something like this happen once and rolling back was the only thing that fixed this kind of issue.

In device manager it shows all hardware working properly but windows says no audio device is installed. I can't roll back the update (it won't let me)

I would do a complete clean reinstall of the machine. If things still don't work after that, some hardware was hit by the power cut.

Try find the Sound program in the list of installed programs , and right klick on it , there you got 2 options , uninstall and change i think , try that.

Before you start re-formatting drives and all the heartache that come with it, try repairing the system files first. These instructions are for Windows 11.
  • To open an elevated command prompt
    • Type cmd in the Windows Search box
    • In the results page, right click the Command Prompt icon and select Run As Administrator
    • You may be asked for confirmation or an administrator password, do it and click Allow
    • In the Command Prompt window type the following command and press Enter. It may take a while for the command to execute
      • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
    • Once completed type the following command in the Command Prompt window, and press Enter
      • sfc /scannow
    • Again this may take a while to complete
    • Once complete reboot windows
This process will find any corrupted and/or missing system files and replace them with fresh versions. Windows should then be able to recover the sound system and get you up and running.

If this fails then post here and we'll try something else :)

Benoen I could kiss you!!! I followed your directions and I have SOUND!!!!! It took two passes on the DISM.exe and another with scannow (with a similar number of reboots) but I have my volume Icon back on the taskbar and Fire & Water by Bad.Co coming out of my speakers! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Even my local computer tech was just going to wipe my C: drive and reinstall windows. Thank you again.
