Flight Réplicas Douglas Dc-4 and B-24 free Released

Also, some of the liveries are working fine for me (all weather flying center, USAF 7405th), but none of the Buffalo liveries work, they just create a ghost plane. This is in FS2024, which I know you don't use, but wondering what might be different from your military paints and the Buffalo liveries...
is it just the Buffalo's? or others as well?
What could be the thing is that there are different models, C54 cargo, C54pax and tanker. If it is model related, then I'd expect all paints that use the same model to suffer? If that is not the case, we'll have to look elsewhere. It would then still be nice to know which paints are affected.

as for Alaska:

Oooh, wow, that Alaska plane looks awesome! Thanks, Jan Kees!

Of the Jankees liveries I have installed, these work:
USAF
All Weather Flying Center
Transocean

These don't:
Buffalo 57
USCG
Buffalo Tanker 02
Buffalo 58
Buffalo Tanker 56
VH-PAF
Buffalo 02
Buffalo 56

The actual models work with the included liveries. That is, I can load Tanker 15 without issue.

Hopefully the list might help figure out what's wrong?

I had a look, and they all show up without problems on my end, so I'm not sure sure what causing the problem. Sounds stupid, but deleting them and installing them again?

Meanwhile, I've updated and uploaded the Alaskan aircraft: https://flightsim.to/file/98116/douglas-dc-4-alaska-airlines-n90450

I grabbed the plane yesterday. Thank you in advance for the repaints I am about to download! LOL! The pictures of them in here are spectacular. Beautiful work. This will be a fun trip from PANC to PAJN.

Buffalo 58 and VH-EDA work fine for me in FS2024, I did rebuild the layout.json file, just in case.
Each livery appears as a separate variant on the aircraft configuration page.

Thank you for checking! And thanks so much for the awesome Alaska livery! I got them all working now, thanks to...

BINGO! Thanks for the clue, Keith! I ran all the layout.json files through msfslayoutgenerator.exe and boom, every livery works fine. FS2024 is pickier about the layout files, and that's what was causing all of the failures I was seeing.

Beauties, eh?

I loaded the B-24 into FS2024 and so far it flys very well, this is a beautiful conversion as is the DC-4. In the download comments from Flightsim.to Flak said that you can use the sounds from the PMDG DC-6 if you own it and edit the aircraft.cfg file. Can anyone post an example on how to do that? Thanks Ed

I figured it out and it works. For those who are interested this is what I did.
Delete the origional sound files both the Sound and the SoundAI and replace them with the PMDG DC-6 sound files of the same name.
Then run the json file through the MSFSLayoutGenerator.exe. You just drag and drop it over the exe file and it will produce a new updated json file.

I would like to add a Garmin 430 to the cockpit and will see if I can figure that out?

Also, I am using a program called FSRadiopanel and I can use this program to fly this B-24 on an autopilot and it will fly a beautiful coupled ILS approach.

Thanks for all the great repaints other members are producing too and to all the work that was done to bring these airplanes from the past into FS2024. I only fly FS2024 now and rarely if ever fly FS2020 anymore.

Above is the link to the FS2024 version.

Do you get spurious floating reflections all through the cockpit in the DC-4 in FS24?
I do, of lights and runway markings etc, it's a little off-putting...the Liberator doesn't have this problem.

Your method isn't wrong, but you don't need to delete the original sound files. You can simply edit the aircraft.cfg to point to the DC-6 sound. Look for this line in aircraft.cfg - it will appear 12 times, one for each livery. [fltsim.0], [fltsim.1], etc

sound="\..\..\PMDG DC-6A\sound\"

The downside of this is there are no sounds for anything EXCEPT engines. I've been exploring options on how to improve the sound, but am doing a lot of learning as I go - I haven't tweaked sounds before!

Thanks Flak for that info. I only have the engine sounds and the wheel scrape sounds on take off and landing, but not the cool squeaky brakes sound which I really like in the DC-6. I'm not sure why? This B-24 flys like a truck and is so stable, and I actually think it flys better than the PMDG DC-6. But I'm flying the FS2020 DC-6 in FS2024 so that might change once PMDG releases their 2024 version.

So the reason we don't get ALL sounds when remapping to the DC-6 is due to the way sound system is designed in MSFS. The sound.xml file is used to define:

If THIS happens in the aircraft, play THAT sound (the sounds themselves are all compiled in the .PCK file)

The problem is, in around 95% of the cases THIS is a named local variable which is specific to the DC-6, rather than a generic sim variable. Fortunately, the engine sounds and ground roll are done slightly differently, and are driven by generic engines events.

Now the good news, I'm painstakingly going through and writing a new sound.xml, essentially rewiring it to use variables from the B-24, to drive sounds from the DC-6 .PCK file. This is actually challenging because PMDG have not assigned logical names to the variables, perhaps to discourage people from doing what I'm doing!

I'll publish my all-new sound.xml on fs.to when it's done. I dont' think we should roll this in to the "Repack" created by SeeRyFly because it will only work for people who own the DC-6.

In other news, I've been working on other enhancements which should make their way into the SeeRyFly's "Repack":
  • I'm a good way through adding a lot more clickable items to the cockpit, done so far are: battery master; alternator; magnetos; starters; fuel pumps; most exterior lights
  • I've prepared some minor improvements to exterior "COMP" textures in the form of better ambient occlusion channels
  • I will start work on improving the interior textures but that's a bit further out.

Thank you! Can you make the ball turret work? It was also controlled by a clickspot.
I’m not in front of my PC now but I think it should be possible - I’ll also do bomb bay doors. I just found the original instruction manual since I was curious what clickspots were used.
