Hello Boxcar, my old friend!

I decided to tone down the brightness of the white back-lighting on the pedestal text. It was very 'in your face' and much brighter than the overhead panel white. I think it looks better now and not so big of a distraction to night flying. The AP buttons are another matter however as they are part of the gauge .CAB file and are in 8-bit BMP format and I have been having a hard time this morning getting them to dim down a bit. I am not good with gauge programming and gauge textures but these AP buttons are like headlights blazing away now I've dimmed down the other lighting! I may have to ask for help over at FSDeveloper.......again! 😞

With Update 3 my center pedestal doesn't have the white outlines.
Is is possible that the light Rheostat can be adjustable from just on/of settings?

Turn on the panel lights too, you only have the overhead floods on. The text and lines are back-lit as part of the panel light system. The panel light switch is just below the left throttle beside the landing light and taxi light switches. As to making the rheostat function properly, yes it can be done, yes many have done it before, I just don't know how to do it! I do know it requires custom code to do it and I am not a coder!

Well, my thought was to turn on 2 switches. One is the panel switch (which I think I have found) AND and the overhead flood.
Is that not correct? Or did I miss a switch somewhere...?

It seem the taxi runway light do not illuminate the runway. Is this the desire results?
This is looking foward over the wings.

Some shockwave lights would cast a nice long visible beam on the runway.

This is my Boxcar in P3D v4.5. Note: Ignore the Relative Wind Gauge on the far right. I never use the whisky compass that's normally in that location but I always have the wind gauge somewhere on all my personal aircraft. I've had it since FS2004 and I wouldn't be without it.

For me both types of light illuminate the ground and both lights have 3D beams just like the Shockwave lights!

I can only conclude that there is something wrong at your end Butch. Which version of P3D are you using for that shot and did you copy the contents of the 'effects' folder in the beta pack into the 'effects' folder of BOTH of your P3D versions? Yours should look like mine. It looks like you are missing the effect files somehow.

Oh now this does look fantastic! Always great to see "new" aircraft coming out for these old sims. (Even if is an old project!)

The missing landing/taxi lights is a common problem in P3Dv5, I don't get them with any plane in mine and gave up trying to fix them long ago.

I did not know that! Thanks for the info. Makes me glad I decided to go with v4.5 instead of 5.4 when I bought P3D last year!

After asking for assistance over at FSDeveloper I got a tip about trying to change the 'saturation' of the autopilot buttons rather than the lightness/colour. I pulled them all into Photoshop and turned down the saturation and the result is much nicer. They are not so 'in your face' now and blend nicely with the other equipment.

Larry, please let us FSX users know when you upload the FSX Boxcar, whether it's a separate package or together with the P3D version. :encouragement:

I will just as soon as it's done. The Boxcar is a pure FSX aircraft, exported using the FSX SDK that just happens to work extremely well in P3D as well as FSX. One model, two sims! (y)

I am only posting all the stuff here because I am testing in P3D and my FSX graphics suck after a driver update (I must get around to re-doing all the Nvidia Inspector settings again, if I can remember how to do it!) and the screenshots are really pixelated and low-res.

Wow, looking forward to this one in FSXSE! Might have to upgrade a few of my 2004 sceneries for this thing to fly out of.

It looks like we may have reached the breaking point as far as P3D goes. The aircraft works fine in FSX+Accel, FSX:SE, P3D up to v5.3 (32-bit and 64-bit versions) but when we test it in P3D v5.4 we are seeing all sorts of issues consistent with other FSX aircraft that fail in v5.4! It is a native FSX aircraft so to get it as far as P3D v5.3 is a bonus in my book!

If you use P3D v5.4 or above then I'm sorry you are out of luck, for everyone one else we are looking good.

I read the thread and I don't see anything that could point to it effecting the stock landing lights.
To be sure I just did a test where I deleted the XMLtools entry from DLL.xml and loaded up a night flight in the stock FSX C172 but landing or taxi lights still don't light up the runway.
