Thanks mate, will try out a couple of texture sets.I hate to see a question just sit there.
I loaded a nice set of textures but it was a long, long time ago.
I know the author lived in Japan and they were Freeware.
I also know I got them from FS.com, so my reply is mostly worthless.
Still, I've repurposed a lot of stuff from my FS9 and FS2002 installs on this machine over to its newer brother.
I'll probably be looking for better textures once I figure out what the new GPU on the newer machine likes.
This does bring up a point, what do YOU think the water should look like?
If you're Nordic or live in the higher latitudes, it should look very dark blue to almost black with wave tops.
Polynesian or Caribbean waves would be a brighter blue, etc.
IMO, most of the good water textures are Freeware so feel free to try out different texture sets or even mix-and-match the ones you find.
These are great choices to look at, TBH; FE9 was my most prominent option when it came to water, but what I have right now is close. Just like my sky texture and SweetFX tinkering...perhaps worth looking into, for the desired water textures:
Toga Projects' freeware ENVTEX and FE9 https://www.togaprojects.com/freewares ,
Supersky 2020 https://taxiway.forumfree.it/?t=78071023 ,
Peter Wilding's (author of Flight1's GEPro and FE) https://www.fs2000.org/2004/01/24/fs2004-dynamic-water-texture-set/ ,
and of course and Lynn and Bill Lyon's fabulous water textures: https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/2721/fs2004-water-environment-textures/ , https://www.fs2000.org/2003/11/04/fs2004-water-environment-textures-ii/ ; and there are also further 'test' water mods by Lynn and Bill in the Golden Wings 3 Extras file hosted here at sim-outhouse / the old hangar archive: https://www.sim-outhouse.org/toh/
finally there is also the previously available payware REX Overdrive for FS2004 and Flight1's FE and FSWater for FS2004
plenty of mix and match as @Sbob mentions together with trial and error as befitting to taste and liking
@fs10inator also suggests a suitable freeware water texture replacement in his FS-enhancement guide - perhaps have a look therein as well
cheers!
