Website behaviour

For the last several days, I have been seeing a strange situation when I use my shortcut (https://www.sim-outhouse.org/) to access the home page. The page opens in a text-based representation, rather than the usual graphical one. The solution is easy - simply tell the browxser to reload the page, and the problem goes away until the next time that I open a browser window after a shutdown / reboot.

What is most unusual is that this happens with both FireFox under Windows and with Safari under iOS, and after every system restart of either system.

It is tempting to think that the cause may be the recent update to the website, but that may be a simple misunderstanding of the complexities of website software . . .

Incidentally, Windows updates are NOT allowed on this sytem - well, official ones that call themselves updates, but who knows what sneaky ones get through that M$ refuse to disclose . . .

. . . and just to confuse the situation, for the first time ever, I had the same happen after posting this thread and then selecting "mark forms read" - duh . . .

I've been on the site most of the day, and can't complain about responsiveness at all.

We have had several inconsiderate members (mostly people who have never made a post but leech from the library) making multiple concurrent downloads from the library recently and as the library and the forums share the same bandwidth when that happens the forums slow to a crawl unfortunately. We are actively looking at introducing a concurrent download limit but whenever we try to add preventative code it breaks the forum. We ask that if you are after multiple files from the library at the same time please limit yourself to a maximum of 4 concurrent files until we can sort it out. Being greedy does not help your fellow forum members!

I am sorry but I really do not see how unusually busy downloads can relate to the problem that I originally reported. That problem occurs EVERY time that I try to open this website after a system reboot, and on two different computers, even if that reboot is in the middle of the day and happens only a short time after my last visit.

And if we are suffering from unusually busy downloads again, then perhaps when you open a resource, the listed details should include the size of the file that will be downloaded. Otherwise, how is anyone supposed to even think about the load that they are putting on the website ?

@rohan you're the only one reporting the specific issues you're having.

Other people have reported a lack of responsiveness and low speed of the site. None are reporting what you are.

I would like to input my 2¢ of rather flaky outcomes with this site as of late.
Hopefully, attached it worth thousand words. First one is result of trying to logoff; other is when I click on a forum topic.
This is akin to Russian roulette. Some times it works fine other times, not so much.

What operating system do you run, Butch? Almost looks like Chrome.
I use mainly FireFox, But it can and does load youtube, avsim, and othe sites instantly, except for the hit and miss here. I have same issues here (SOH) using other browsers I have i.e, Brave, MS Edge. So, I don't think it has anything to do with my browser(s) as they can load any other site with ease and speed.

PS, I just did a Ctrl + Shift + Del (clear browsing data) and for now, seems Okay, will see how long this will last. Looking at DD post below I can see there are other issues here.

@rohan i have seen the issue you reported yesterday. That happens when the content of the site is delivered to the browser but the CSS or styles failed to show up. I don't know how that happens but saw it several times through out the day yesterday.

Most of our issues are related the Apache service still needing tuned. That is a work in progress. As we have time we will make adjustments. During those times the website maybe unresponsive or offline.

The core issue is how Larry said the shared bandwidth between downloads and forum software. It was all unrestricted which becomes a problem when one user starts downloading 30 files at one time.
