Nothing says "Please buy my SAFE helicopter," like seeing how many of the office staff you can lift at one time (reminds me of filling a VW Beetle with 20 of my collage classmates).

Without a doubt, the Bell UH-1 set the standard for helicopter usage and operational flexibility that has been followed by the next generation of helicopters.

I wonder how much collective the pilot of that Dragonfly had left to translate even a little, with that load?? Great pic though!

The limiting factor is power which translates into torque when the throttle is increased.
With a useful load of around 1100 lb. it is most likely at max gross in this pic.
So any increase in collective would slow the rotor rpm (Nr) due to lack of power to compensate for the increased blade angle.
Interestingly, in RW helicopters when near max gross and unable to hover, you can slowly roll/skid slide forward, translate to forward flight, gaining dynamic lift of the rotor system acting as a wing, reducing the power needed (a running take off). Then when you burn enough weight in fuel, you can land in a hover.
Seems very stable in a IGE hover.

Helicopters are strange and interesting beasts when it comes to aerodynamics.
