  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION - ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ

Due to an increase in the number of new members who are trying to systematically download our entire Resource Library (one new member yesterday tried to download 3,000+ files AT ONCE!) we are being forced to implement some changes regarding who can download what, how many files at a time and at what speed. As the forums and Resource Library share the same bandwidth when the Library gets overloaded with demand like that the forums fall over, as we have all seen recently. It's sad that greed has forced our hand in this way but we must do something for the benefit of all our legitimate members (many of whom paid money for the upkeep of the site) and to prevent the files stored here being used for nefarious purposes. Many of our uploads have specific conditions tied to them that forbid uploading to any other site or deny uploading to any site that has a 'paywall' (i.e. a pay to download policy). Due to the number of mass download attempts recently we can only assume that somebody, somewhere, is attempting to stock up a new file library with our files and we owe it to our up-loaders to protect their files and intellectual property especially as many (like my own LDR Development projects) are made available at SOH only and are specified as such in the 'read me' files.

The forums and Resource Library will be taken offline as of 13:00 EDT with the forums coming back online shortly after without the resources library while we work on setting up permissions on the new Library module.

We hope our members understand why we need to do this and will bear with us while we implement the changes.

    Thanks in anticipation, SOH ADMINISTRATION

Downloads are now active. You may proceed with downloading as desired

The download limits are a work in progress. Some settings are likely to need tweaking in the coming days.

RAF Banff

What exact model is that. I have been working on the abacus MkIX with chatgpt WRT air and cfg files in particular. We have a good fitting for the air and cfg tested at 20-25-3oK, but the appearance is wrong; a FB with gun so we are looking at using a Mkiv appearance to see if we can do that. If not I may your, Dan or Clive's help.

Mosquito FB XVIII Investigation (CFS3) with chatGPT help
I've been examining the Mosquito FB XVIII package currently in my install and have found a number of inconsistencies that may be of interest to anyone using it for Coastal Command or Norway/North Sea operations.
Findings so far:
The XDP identifies the aircraft as a Mosquito FB XVIII (Tsetse) and includes a 57 mm Molins gun installation. The aircraft description also references 248 Squadron and the anti-shipping/anti-submarine role normally associated with the FB XVIII.
However, the model references do not appear to match a dedicated FB XVIII model.
The XDP references:
mosquito_fbxv.m3d
The aircraft.cfg also appears to reference an FB XV model rather than a dedicated FB XVIII model.
  1. The model folder contains FB XV references but no obvious FB XVIII model files.
  2. The M3D file itself appears to call FB18 texture files, suggesting that textures may have been changed without corresponding changes to the underlying model.
  3. A number of cockpit DDS files appear to originate from a Mk IV package, indicating that cockpit assets may have been borrowed from another Mosquito variant.
  4. The package contains at least two FB18 texture sets:
    • A Coastal Command aircraft marked with the single code letter "O" (described as NT225 "O for Orange" of 248 Squadron).
    • Another texture carrying D-Day invasion stripes and DM squadron codes.
    • Current Assessment:
    • The package appears to be a composite aircraft assembled from multiple Mosquito sources. At present I cannot determine whether the underlying model was originally intended to represent:
      • an FB XVIII,
      • an FB XV,
      • an FB VI,
      • or a generic Mosquito fighter-bomber.
The XDP and textures clearly attempt to represent an FB XVIII Tsetse, but the model and cockpit references suggest that components from other Mosquito variants have been incorporated.
Therefore I would think of the package as:
"FB XVIII representation with uncertain underlying model provenance."
So, while the aircraft is unusable, therer is the ? of its exact lineage and historical accuracy which remain uncertain.
The key unanswered question is whether the actual 3D model geometry was ever created specifically to represent the FB XVIII, particularly the distinctive 57 mm Molins gun installation, or whether the aircraft is a later conversion of an earlier Mosquito model.

If anyone knows the original author or source package, additional information would be appreciated.
