2026 Resource Download limits

I thought I'd better log in to make sure things are still okay with my logon.

Just wanted to let all of you know I'm still breathing, but I've been busy with life in general as well as my other hobby -- Silent Hunter 4 -- so I haven't done much by way of FS9 lately.

Thank you for protecting everything everyone has worked on for so long! (y) If you need anything from my end, just send me a message.

Now back to watching the World Cup! :running:

Saludos!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ

Due to an increase in the number of new members who are trying to systematically download our entire Resource Library (one new member yesterday tried to download 3,000+ files AT ONCE!) we are being forced to implement some changes regarding who can download what, how many files at a time and at what speed. As the forums and Resource Library share the same bandwidth when the Library gets overloaded with demand like that the forums fall over, as we have all seen recently. It's sad that greed has forced our hand in this way but we must do something for the benefit of all our legitimate members (many of whom paid money for the upkeep of the site) and to prevent the files stored here being used for nefarious purposes. Many of our uploads have specific conditions tied to them that forbid uploading to any other site or deny uploading to any site that has a 'paywall' (i.e. a pay to download policy). Due to the number of mass download attempts recently we can only assume that somebody, somewhere, is attempting to stock up a new file library with our files and we owe it to our up-loaders to protect their files and intellectual property especially as many (like my own LDR Development projects) are made available at SOH only and are specified as such in the 'read me' files.

The forums and Resource Library will be taken offline as of 13:00 EDT with the forums coming back online shortly after without the resources library while we work on setting up permissions on the new Library module.

We hope our members understand why we need to do this and will bear with us while we implement the changes.

Thanks in anticipation,

SOH ADMINISTRATION

Downloads are now active. You may proceed with downloading as desired

The download limits are a work in progress. Some settings are likely to need tweaking in the coming days.
It's a real shame that it has come to this. I'm about ready to just throw my laptop in the lake and buy an ultralight.

Is this 60 second wait time from the moment you click on "Download" until the download becomes available to actually download going to be SOP?

Yes it is, because you're member+.

You can also interact with the community which will lessen your waiting time.

Thing is, we're not waiting for downloaders, we want to keep this community alive through interaction, sharing and just having fun. If you're here just to download, then you'll have to live with those rules.

You can also stick around, engage and maybe learn something. You'd be surprised by the number of very knowledgeable people that frequent the site.

Oh, I know. I've been a member since FS 2002. I check for something new daily and sometimes find something that's been updated that will allow me to "clean-up" the aircraft folder a bit. I honestly don't participate in the forums because I just have nothing useful to add. So, I guess I'll just have to deal with the 60 second wait time. It really isn't that big a deal. And if that's the worst thing that happens to me the day I download something, I'm having a pretty good day. Thanks for responding.

These wait times were our initial, aggressive, response to the issues that were being caused by excessive and downright greedy down-loaders who were literally breaking the server limits. It was always our plan to re-visit the settings and fine tune them as required. We are coming up to one month since the protective measures were put in place so maybe we (i.e. the Admin) can have a discussion to see about reducing things a little bit and see what happens. We absolutely WILL NOT go back to the old system of unlimited access and speeds though (once bitten twice shy)!

Good morning dear Adminstrators,
at first I will thank you about all the efforts to keep this mervellous site living.
I had the chance to meat here a lot of friends, helpfull, comprehensive and tolerant people
This commuity rembers me to a timeas I was Child. My father was muted to Fontainebleau in
NATO . The where some meetings at our house with ancient pilots of WW II from all counties (except russians, what was impossible at this time.
And when I listened about what they talk about he planes the did fly, from the venrable StuKa to Mustangs and Spitfires and all what has been used at those times there was a commun point they had all: the love to fly. Forgotten or put in the waste paper bin all ennemy thinking -Just the joy of flight. There where fine men and even I had only between 8 and 12 years when I had questions, they did not laugh to me but gently answered my questions. And when there was different answers I rember Adolf Galland who said to me " do not worry about differencies keep them in your mind and make your own reflections about, you will find at the end the right point will mostly in the middle of two different minds".
And here I find the same mentality, Free, open we discus some things and search where will be the "middle pont.
Tank you to you adminstrators and other helpfull persons that we have such a fine community.

Oups just a Question about andetail, when I click on my photo I see " my screen name and under it Members + .70.
