I have been placing harbour beacons (red and green) at the entrance to gibraltar harbour; anyone know whether the lights should be flashing or steady? (I know that the red is port side for entering the harbour)

thanks

red on right returning

thanks for the tip!

do you think I have them colours reversed?
What I read said hat british ports used port (red) on left when entering harbour.
thanks

Red, right, returning is only for the USA, international is the other way.

Roger that - a chart of the area would show whether they are flashing or not. fl 4s means flashing every 4 seconds, for example. Who knows what they were in WWII though. SOme places turned these lights off during tactical/wartime situations.

Boatz is right on the international, the America's North & South under the IALA B standard. Here is a sample from the National Maritime Safety Authority Port Moresby.
