Wilco Citation X on sale! $13.48

Got it. Like it. You can jump in and fly, but don't expect to jump in and sucessfully use the autopilot. Time for me to ****

Doing a lot of **** to no avail though. It is kind of a "case study" but I keep getting stuck trying to figure out how to work an FMC for the first time. Ugh!

When I hit a dead end e.g. and it says "Invalid Entry" when trying to load my flight plan the manual does not explain how to deal with this or other basic entries. Anyone know of a good tutorial?

It is kind of a "case study"

Aint that the truth.

I cut my teeth on the CaptainSim 757 FMC (even more ornery), so this was "easy"..

I never found a good tutorial.. best I can advise is to take it slow, and have a notepad handy (so you don't keep making the same mistakes).

If you do everything properly and in order, it does go rather smoothly.

There are so many possible "invalid entries" that I'd have to know more before helping..

Thanks Brett, will follow your advice.

Now this is interesting - from the Wilco support forum- re why I can't seem to load a FP in the FMC:

can not import the FS flight plan into the FMC !
This problem has been reported by some users, but didn't happen to the beta-testers.

To solve the problem:
  • Make sure you have the FS flight plan loaded in memory. The FMC import function works with the flight plan in memory.
  • If it still doesn't work, look into your FS\Modules directory. You should have a file called "gps_export.dll" and its size should be 6144 bytes.
This DLL is provided with FS9.1 and FSX, but some add-ons remove it or replace it with an older version.
Looked in the Modules folder and, guess what? That module is missing . . so now what? Wilco's FAQ doesn't bother to mention the solution! Found this file in my FS9 folder so will give that a try now . . :d

Hey.. let me know what happens..

Mean time.. Don't import FS flight plans.. Enter them manually. Start small.. like just one waypoint.. then work on understanding entering speeds/altitudes... THEN try several waypoints...

If you import a complex flight-plan.. you still gotta "clean it up", and if you don't know why (or how), you'll just get aggravated.

How do you shut off the annoying alarm when you advance the throttles for take-off (it shuts off after gear up) ?

Did I miss something in the manual?

Making some headway, but now the PFD and MFD are not working + getting a HDG fail and ATT fail lighting up on the gauge in red lettering.

It was a pleasant project and totally at odds with all my military stock at the time, oddly I never did get a finished product but it was fun and I'm pleased people are taking something positive from an old model. The older lower poly model will be why many are getting good frame rates.

Enjoy

Michael

This is a nice model indeed ! Michael, do you know any workaround to have the PFD/MFD less dark when the sun is not straight behind the aircraft (FS9 model) ?

Thanks dominique :wavey:

Expat.. There is a specific sequence to follow.. I'll give you a brief list:

1-Batteries on (both)(and the bus switches (all of them))
2-Standby power on
3-Fire up both inertial guidance systems (align position)
4-fire up the APU (make sure the APU generator is engaged)
5-Engage external power (brings the APU online)
6-Turn the avionics on

AFTER the inertial guidance align lights go off.. switch them both to 'Nav'

NOW... at he FMC panel.. set your initial position. If you have not touched it yet , it's easy.. you can see the bottom/right button saying something like "Pos Init".. click it. Now, you'll have several references to use. The only one that seems to work, is the top one. Click the top/right button and wait a few seconds. If the HSI and Attitude Indicator don't come to life.. then click one of the other refernces on the FMC, and quickly re-click the top one. It seems to be the one that works. Remember, if you're not tuned to a nav-aid, you'll still get the red 'X' on the HSI, but it will no longer say, "HDG FAILED". Sometimes, it takes extra time for the Attitude Indicator to kick in.

Now you have a working HSI and Attitude Indicator, and could fly around without the FMC..

Let me know when you get this far.

Thanks :), regarding PFD/MFD, I'm afraid I don't, I only did the paint and external model, the rest of the package and FSx conversion was done by someone else.

Kindest

man, I remember looking at the sale at 1 oclock in the afternoon wishing I had known earlier. Now I'm REALLY salty that the sale was extended and I didn't know....

It does look great inside and out but I have one big problem with it. As soon as I try to add the FS FlightPlan it locks right up. Everything shutsdown and I get a fatal error message asking me if I want to try and restart the program. I'm using Vista 64 bit so I'm betting it has something to do with that. I didn't have the gpsxxx.dll in the modules folder, so I found it, put it in and still no luck. This is consistent too, I mean everytime. I'm hoping I will be able to enter a flightplan manually, I've just been a bit frustrated and haven't tried yet.

I received the same email but haven't had a chance to d/l the new file. I hope to this evening when I get home.

I'm curious as to what they "fixed".
