UH-1 'Gunship' for FS9?

Howdy!

While I have Jordan Moore's 'civilian' Huey (the Blue & Yellow one) for FS9, I was wondering if there's a Vietnam era UH-1 'Gunship' with the appropriate M-60s, Rockets and Crew that's floating around out there for FS9?

Thanks! 👍 :)

not necessarily for FS2004, but certainly for CFS2 https://www.sim-outhouse.org/freeflight/Aircraft_CFS2_7.html (scroll down to near the end to preview the heli selection) --> perhaps can be made compatible with FS9 with a modicum of adjustments and fine-tuning

alternatively, also https://www.fs2000.org/2004/01/22/fs2002fs2004-army-uh-1dh-huey/ by Lynn Rogers

and for completeness, the UH-1 by Jordan Moore in Vietnam era livery https://library.avsim.net/extsearch?extended_search[name]=Huey&extended_search[filename]=&extended_search[author]=Mercy&extended_search[category]=35

and two additional https://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=Piskin&categoryId=33 https://www.avsimsu.com/f/fs2004-vertoleti-35/uh-1d-16030.html

Alphasim has a Huey gunship on the web site, but it's old:

ALPHA_Bell_UH-1C_'Huey'_CFS2_FS02

You might need to swap-in the .air file and aircraft.cfg data from Jordan's Huey.

Update- Just for the heck of it I tried to load it in FS9.

Defiantly problems with the animated rotors and also the 2D panel. I'm thinking the panel is fixable. Maybe some kind soul can try scrubbing it up with MDL Converter, but I'm thinking there was some hex editing going on. :indecisiveness:

Which is a shame, the FD isn't that bad and while it really could use a better sound folder, what you get will work.

Seen here in a happier environment (FS8), the Alpha Huey still has some issues with the rotor animation.

But at least the rotors are now visable.
Notice, also, the twin .50's, zuni rockets, and the grenade chucker in the nose.
I have a virtual scrap load of planes installed in FS8 and for some reason I dumped this one many years ago.
Again, it is very, VERY old. And while the 3DO and textures are nice, the coding screams out "FS2000".

Worst case, load it in FS9. Its now an "Army test object" at Area 51 and those rotor masts are really antennas for an anti-gravity generator of "foreign origin". Like 200 light year's foreign.. :LOL:
Goose the throttle/collective and try to pull off a loop. Interesting things happen when the nose is raised higher than 80 degrees. If it helps, I managed to regain some control at FL 380 (38,000 ft) and "auto hover" it back to the ground. :wiggle:

Area51 Simulations also featured a pretty cool UH1-Y Venom… unfortunately only 4 Bladed… no 2 Bladed Model included… so its more like a Bell 212… rather than a Huey…

Also four different crew configuration onboard... incl. Two men at the door or three, some snipers, some gun handlers and some long weapon handlers...

The following repaints come with it:

Marine Grey:

Sand Brown:

And Camo:

The Full Load Model is available and included in the same addon as well.

Some Cockpit Shots:

Relatively modern looking if you ask me… maybe not very accurate to the Vietnam War Times… when all instruments and the whole Panel was still in old fashion…

THAT one is on my shopping list! Four blades is even better. :love:

Update-
Thanks for finding it, I wasn't sure if anyone modelled a Venom or if there was a version for FS9.
I snagged it at PCAviator. I use them if there aren't other options.
Just one warning, if you do try to install it MAKE SURE you install it to an empty folder (pref. on your desktop) then drop it in the sim.
I tried installing direct to FS9 and wound up with a bunch of shrapnel files and folders in my main FS folder. :rolleyes:
Otherwise, its fairly basic. Its also fairly Abacus :ROFLMAO: (no kidding) but the MDL and textures are top notch.
The one let-down was the SOUND folder. Its fine but there are not many wav files in there. A better Huey-type sound folder (I have a tasty Bell 430 sound folder that fits really well) will make it an "everyday" addition to your fleet. The panel and VC are also fairly spartan but this is actually a plus. Its a military aircraft, after all.

So, its a bit on the pricey side ($20) for what you get and there ARE Abacus fingerprints on it BUT its a Venom and its for FS9 (or FSX, same installer). A little buff and some polish will get you a nice chopper.

BTW, I bag on Abacus but once you install it, its yours to play with. :wiggle:
I have their Kiowa, which is older FS tech, but it also cleans up nicely.
So, the Venom is highly recommended but pricey for its age. You DO get multiple MDL folders, everything from a Slick to a full gunship load out.
Really, all it needs is a quick edit to the prop_animation_ratio line for each aircraft.cfg entry (I change it from 1.86 to 2.43174 for a 60 Hz set up) and you're good to go. If I was really picky, the MFD displays could use an upgrade and that Bell 430 sound folder does make a difference for the headphone crowd. The only drawback is the installer, don't assume its just like Virtavia. Create a folder on your desktop and install it there. Then drop it into FS.

:unsure:

OK, maybe not so fast?
FS9 has suddenly gone a little goofy for me.
My joystick is no longer showing up and remember what I posted about "shrapnel files and folders" on that first bad install?
Stuff I know I deleted has shown up again. :dizzy:

This could be nothing more than Win10 being Win10 plus I just need to reseat my joystick.
I'll let you know how this works out.

Well, for what ever reason, my joystick assignments got wiped out. Anyone ever heard of this happening before in FS? :rolleyes:
To be honest, its been a couple of years since it last happened. :LOL:

Went back through my main FS folder and subfolders and rechecked for new stuff that shouldn't be there.
Again, make sure you install the Venom to an empty folder then drop it into FS.

What else? Those QT tail codes point to HMLAT-303 located at Camp Pendleton MCAS/Munn Field (KNFG).
The closest call sign I could find was "Atlas".
For you ATC folks, there is an "ATC Model" for Sea Venom in EditVoicePack. I can crank out a "Venom" ATC Model if anyone wants it.

NO luck so far finding an AFCAD or airport scenery for Pendleton/Munn for anything prior to FSX.
To quote R. Lee Ermey (RIP) and my Dad (RIP), "You gotta be $#!++ing me!!". :LOL:
I even tried Google AI and it asked me, "I'm confused, what does S.O.L. stand for?".

ATC Model for UH-1Y is "UH1Y". All early Hueys use "UH1" for the 204/205 models up, with the 212/UH-1N using "B212". After all the researching of callsigns for my MAIW AI, "ATLAS" is the most common for -303.

I did find an AFCAD for Pendleton:

I think this is pretty close:

[General]
atc_type=BELL
atc_model=B12

These are stock FS9 voice files, EVP not needed. This way, you'll hear "Bell two twelve helicopter" and not "Bell Bell Huey helicopter" or similar.

Here's the full range of stock models:

atc_model=B407 407 helicopter
atc_model=B412 412 helicopter
atc_model=B427 427 helicopter
atc_model=B430 430 helicopter
atc_model=B47G 47 helicopter
atc_model=B47J 47 helicopter
