Yes. It means "I'm pretty much done, but I want everybody to think it's only halfway done so they'll think I'm a better painter. Any flak or pointers I get can then be dismissed as something I haven't done yet so I can get free proofreading with no hit ot my pride.":blind:

I'm just kidding, guys. If I had half the artistic talent that some of you guys had, I'd try to paint myself. :icon_lol::ernae:
That was actually pretty funny. Thanks for the fun.

an artist is only as good as his canvas :engel016:.

Thanks Michael. The template is a big problem when the cutting is a big mess with distortion and other buggy stuff.
That was the case with the Dauphin, the canvas was not the best I've seen. It's because I couldn't give the best for the texture set.

I remember some of your models that were a real pleasure to work on due to the perfect cutting of the 3D on the canvas:ernae:

So for everybody, keep that in mind, we make what we can with what we have..

Remi,

Thank you, you are right, accurate mapping and exact corrolation of textures is important and takes a great deal of time, it is important to make sure you have the same pixel ratio across all joining textures and to pre plan the cuts long before the model is finished. For me texture mapping comes very close to the start of most projects, sometimes you can build something and then months later realise it will not map very well because the polys lay at odd angles to the texture maps. You never know, I might have some new textures and mesh to map in the near future.

Dauphin, I fully understand, hence my comments on the other forum, it didn't look like your external textures at all, not the style I'm used to, I therefore deduced that it wasnt the painters fault but the underlying mesh, you can only go so far creating purse's from pigs ears.

A good clean tidy mesh with neat orderly polys is critical to good modeling and texturing, sadly I seem to be alone banging that drum and have all but given up with some AS imports, people just dont listen anymore and you'll find people ending up in the position you are in, struggling.

I have not seen the raw Dauphin mesh ( but have seen the sim model, so have seen enough to forumlate an accurate idea of whats under the skin), but I have seen the C-17 and the latest previews confirm its fundamentally the same external model, both yourself and Pierre will have your work cut out to meet even your own exacting standards, best of luck.

Best

Michael

Sure that's really a pity.. Same thing in the race car sim..
We live a sort of 'fast food' of modeling. Quickly done, no surprise, no taste but that give the change..
For us who are at the end of the line, that's for sure a big frustration.

Sad spirit when we see the level of the comps actually and what is possible to do regarding the modeling development.
Fortunatly there's still some old warrior to put out professional model.

Cheers:ernae:
