Status

Progress

It's all coming together slowly but surely.

Please remember that your Outhouse staff all have jobs and families as well as their volunteer positions here. Most spend a full 8 to 9 hours a day at work and then must spend time with their families and with other responsibilities such as volunteer fire departments and charities. That leaves only a few hours a day for the Outhouse, but most manage to work daily in its upkeep. That doesn't leave a lot of time for sleep!

I apologize for my lack of input or help lately, but I'll correct that when I get back from my current deployment sometime next year.

We don't...

...really have a backup I see...a backup being something you restore, not something you sort through. This is what I have been suspecting, since a backup could have been restored via dialup by now. So why not just spit it out, and let's move on to do what we can to restore the CFS2 downloads section? There's no need to be blowing smoke here. (I do fully appreciate the time and effort that volunteers put in on this stuff, as I do the same for websites other than SOH.) :isadizzy:

Has staff been going to 'spin school'...learning to say black is white, bad is good or up is down with a straight face? :bump:

A new back up manager was appointed a few weeks ago and is busy with that project. His unique assets include terabytes of storage and a bandwidth that makes the most optimistic comcast advertisement pale in comparison. Those assets are beyond all but a few professional IT and business installations. It's being done for you for free.

Please keep in mind that everything here is free and kept so via donations only to cover band width and the replacement of hardware. No advertisements or pop-ups, only flight sim news, fora and downloads. Accusations of "Spin" do nothing to speed up the process and only serve to create hard feelings. As I said earlier, the staff volunteers their time and efforts for your benefit; so please, a little patience if you will.

Finally, let me ask this; who is doing their best to retrieve the situation? Let's see... Avisim is dead with no chance of recovery, Netwings is dead and gone with only the Outhouse making any attempt at getting back to normal. All of the above is all that we can do. It is all that is possible.

Help ?

Rami, what do you want? Should I go to a section and see what cannot be downloaded, or is it more complicated than that?If that is all there is to it, let me know what section to start on. With our luck, everyone will do the same section. I can do some later this pm. Also, do I just post the list here? When your 58, I quess it`s nice to be part of a "hot" group.

Hi Jagd,
I understand the frustrations of Bis, TR, etc etc and appreciate this is an unpaid volunteer situation.
One thing I've got to strongly agree with TR on is the lack of backed-up files. I really do hope we're on top of that for the future.

Maybe a specific CFS2 file restore situation update with a 'ball park' time scale would help?

On another note I personally appreciate Ickie, yourself and all the others that selflessly step-up to the mark for us. Much appreciated.

Mariereid,

You have it exactly right! What I am asking for is for a person to comb through one area of the download section,

Example: Aircraft - German

...and look for any broken links. Make a note of the FILENAME (xxx.zip) and compile a PM with all of the missing files in that section, then send it to me. That way, we can keep track of who has looked through what section.

Thus far, I have looked through...

FDG Scenery
FDG Add-ons
Sounds - Archive
Campaigns - Archive
Utilities - Archive

I will update further when I have looked through more sections.

All Righty Then

I'm volunteering myself...Might as well start from the beginning of the alphabet.

Aircraft/American is where I'll start. If nobody else claims steaks then next will be British, German, Japanese and so on...working nights gives me a couple of hours of peaceful uninterrupted time for myself. I'll go through them till the boss (wife) wakes up. Time to quit sitting on our hands.
Get ready for some PM's Rami...

Right now I am working the archives (including VB planes), so that works.

Thanks!

OK, I`m Home. Should I start on British aircraft? Forgive my ignorance, here is what I am going to do. Try each item, if I get a" web page cannot be found", copy the name of it for example, " L2D 12th Rengo Kokutai The B24 Guy L2D_12R_Talos.zip" and send list to ad Rami mentioned. OK?
Listen guys, I`ll start aircraft british, send the list with just the file name lalalala.zip

Mariereid,

That's fine. All I need is the "L2D_12R_Talos.zip" That will tell the staff what files are missing, and it can be corrected. DvSlats is doing the American aircraft, right now I am taking care of all of the Archives.

All of the missing Archive items have been compiled, and a sectional list has been list had been sent to Douglas.

British Aircraft

Just finnished. I also checked brit arcive,I did not copy the "zips" for arcive as none of them were available for download. Must eat, will send list after supper.

The CFS2 Utilities section has been looked over, and the list has been sent.

The Utilities and Sounds sections have also been checked.

Mariereid,

Just to be clear...all of the files in the

CFS2 - Aircraft - British section were there? No broken links?

I know about the archive section for all of the aircraft, that's already been forwarded.

...that everything in CFS2 has been restored that can be restored from backups??????

If that is the case, knowing what is missing is valid. And we can start to reload files from individual archives.

If not, shouldn't we hold off until we get the word from Douglas that he has done all he can do?

I hate to sound like a nag, but we have no clear picture of where we stand and seem to be running around in circles. :kilroy:

And it seems like asking for any kind of answer brings down accusations of treason upon the head of the inquirer....not a tactic that is much appreciated.

Tango,

I have talked directly to Douglas, and the best way he said to help him was to go section by section and send him a list of the files that are missing, and the names of the missing zips. This is precisely what I and other volunteers are doing.

He has 15GB worth of backups, but unless he knows what's missing, he first has to search for it and then restore it. By doing this, we're making his work, and consequently the restoration we'd all like, much faster and easier.

So yes, Douglas is fully aware, and this is his directive. :engel016:
