Anyone here camp in a teardrop trailer?

I am looking into the possibility of getting one of these, if my Chevy HHR can pull one. They are lightweight enough, I think.

Some cool pictures of teardrops:

Am planning on making some road trips in a couple months, and thought this type of camper would be ideal. My thought is to get a tent to attach to it too. I'd be taking my Rottweiler with me. He rides just perfect in my HHR.

Note: this isn't MY HHR, but is similar.

That is one neat little trailer. Have not camped in one, but I would. Having that trailer behind your HHR would make a neat combo...especially if you painted your HHR up like a D-Day tow plane and painted the trailer up like a Horsa Glider.

I am not a camping type person either. But the teardrop trailer is very lightweight, and aerodynamic too! It would suit my needs just fine. Just as long as there's a shower not too far away....... That, I gotta have access to.

Yep, that settles it. I figure a teardrop trailer, small charcoal grill, and my dog "Chief" - we'll be ready to roll. Hopefully late August or so. Destination? Not sure yet. Maybe Pensacola or in that area. NC

There is a firm by Deer Valley Airport here that makes those, or were making them. They do cabinetry full time and made those part time.

Awesome trailers. The ones here have lift up back ends that have full stoves, sink, storage nooks for food, fold out table, etc. The interior is first rate, like a little boat cabin in there. Lights, mini cabinets, sky light. Very cool little trailers.

They made one for a guy that had a Harley once. Smaller and liter. Very rare.

I don't use one personally, but I know several couples that pull em along behind street rods. If a Buick V6 powered '34 Vicky can pull one than your HHR shouldn't have a problem either. They're easy pullers, about like pulling a lawn tractor or golf cart on a little utility trailer.
They are snug inside though...I would second your idea of getting the tent model.

I like the fat fenders on that first one too...although that "woody" ain't bad either.
Get a wood kit (real, not the plastic stuff!) for your HHR & a woody trailer for a matched set! That'd be stylin!

I know a few folks that have slightly smaller ones that they pull behind GoldWing size cruiser bikes too. Now those are just downright cramped!

I'll stick with my old Dodge A-van though. :d

I do have a question about sleeping in them. Is there enough room to stretch out? NC

On the couple that I've seen, when you're sleeping in em everything else gets piled up on the front end and the foot end of the bed is at the tail end of the trailer. I'm 5'10" and I can stretch out on the bed pretty decent.

Never dealt with them but they look interesting.

Right before I retired from the Navy, I went through a nasty divorce. The result was that I no longer had a place to live. My brother had what was left of our old home place near Texarkana and told me that I could live there if I could find something to live in as there wasn't any houses back there anymore. So, I bought a 26ft travel trailer and moved back into the woods. I had electricity, phone, a spring fed shallow well and dial up, so I was pretty much good to go. It was just me until I remarried a couple of years later and I lived there quite comfy while I went to college. After we married, me and Mrs Willy were enjoying it back there. Then I got custody of my kids from my first marriage and we had to find something bigger.

I still miss that little trailer back in the woods.

It may not be as "cute" or nostalgic, but for a man and his dog, I'd seriously consider a pop-up tent trailer. They come in all sizes and range from $5000-$10000.

You'd have water storage, bed(s), kitchenette, cooking area (some indoors), small fridge or icebox, porta-pot, etc. Some even have an outdoor shower attachment.

Here are a couple of links to look at.

Dump the HHR, forget the teardrop and bring out the credit card. Some times you need to feed the urge to splurge...

I use to love driving by the "plant", knowing I couldn't even afford the trailer being towed behind the..."coach".

I pass one everyday on the side of the road for sale. I keep thinking how cool it is, but also what the heck would I do with it. :)

Great link!

I see so many advantages to such a small, yet practical camping trailer. No, it doesn't have a lot of room. But add a small tent, and it would be all I'd need. NC

Are there tents specifically designed for them?

NC

Some of them, the Little Guy brand perhaps, that is an option. I went to walmart and got a first up canopy. I got the wind curtain to attach to it as well. I tend to park the camper under the canopy with the walls up for some privacy. I suppose you could place it to one side for more room if desired.
