2nd Generation Epic LT soon....

Lionheart

SOH-CM-2014
Hey all,

For those of you that are Epic drivers, the new 2nd Generation Epic LT is slowing going through its finishing paces. The new version will feature the 2nd Generation Garmins, tuned to the LT, and a totally rebuilt, from the ground up, TruTrac Sorceror AP system, complete with 25 voice calls.

I have to tell you, its a blast. It is one amazing AP system. It literally has 'systems' within the AP. The screen has multiple layered layouts, which show you tuning modes, adjustment modes, flight following modes, FP loaded or not, etc. It tells you (actually 'she' tells you, its s females voice) when you have achieved your waypoint, when the Glideslope is locked, etc. When you power up the AP, the girl tells you the GPS is offline, then when GPS is established, she tells you.

Fun fun fun...

It can be sophisticated though. I am thinking I may have to include the basic AP as a fall back for those that are not into that sort of thing. For them, it can be simple. For the ones that want it all, it can be a wild adventure of learning one wild AP system.

By the way, this is the new freeware KPLN airport for FS2004. Brilliant scenery package. I have been doing my share of testing in Northern Michigan lately.

WOW Bill.....You never rest man..........:applause::applause:

That is a great airport..Thanks for the tip...

dang, nice shots. Was just about to ask about that airport and then actually read the post and found it's for FS9, bummer.

When you are in it, you would think you were in FSX, lol... It has traffic! How on Earth this guy made cars and trucks driving down roads, I'll never know. I want to learn that technology. It has a traffic library BGL. The cars at night have headlights light up the road in front of them, and tail lights in the back.

That is a full parking lot of cars as well.

There is a frame rate hit though with all that going on. More AI traffic would probably bring it frames under 10 FPS (on my rig).

Even the little housing area has cars in front of houses, buildings (places of business) with trucks in front on the main street, etc.

You can also download the Mackinaw Island scenery and you'll have a local loop airfield to fly to out of KPLN.

Really impressive.

This 'might' work in FSX. I havent tried it. There is a thread on this airfield in the FS2004 room under Amazing Freeware Scenery.

I love the plane but on my last computer and now my new i7 machine, its got the worst performance of any of my planes and I got em all. A2a,Pmdg,port overs,Dodosim, ect,The Epic brings my machine to its kness. Ive tried all the updates, low rez skins but it doesnt help much. Ive got a gig card and 6 gigs new ram on Vista 64. I am convinced its the displays but I can run the Aerosoft f-16 alot better that the Epic. The only soluton I have found is to kill alot of the ai and autogen, weather.

Im sorry to hear that JimJam.

I went all out on simplicity of the gauges on that plane. Make sure you have the latest build, as we did find a 'something' in there slowing things down.

The new 2nd Generation Garmins are brought over from the Kodiak build. They have some ingenious, new technologies to bring up frame rate performance, like 'sleeping map screen' (zero rendering, not hidden rendering), and some other things, (lower refresh rates, etc, for when the maps are running).

The existing setup as it is (stock Epic) should run fast though. The only things that would hinder this are the fuselage and panels textures (high resolution) and the GPS MFD screen. Thats it. No fancy modules and hurrendous amounts of gauge code running.

Niiice! It's an amazing bird, sort of a muscle plane. I'm just about to learn how to fly it correctly:engel016:.

Pekka,

Its like a Ferrari. You have to run that baby at low power often when in traffic and at low altitude. You will hardly ever use full throttle, even on take-offs. Figure it weighs probably 1/4 to 1/3rd that of a Kodiak, and has the same powerplant. When you are taking off, remember the ship is almost empty, no people in back, so its a rocket. Rotate at about 95 to 120 knots. Over the fence on approaches is about 95 Knots, flaps or not. Full flaps, you can hold about 75 Knots over the tarmac.

Its hard to keep her speed down in close/low traffic patterns. You are constantly tapping the throttle to adjust power. A notch of flaps really helps when around 140 or less. Dropping the gear also helps pull the speed down.

Hi Bill, Still enjoying the original Epic, i too had problems with frame rates awhile back. I upgraded the my motherboard ram and used the 3 gig tweak and it works quite well now. Where would I find any upgrades for the Epic, would like to see if I can do better. With only 512 mb on the video card I find that it is maxed out sometimes, but then most sliders are full left. Thanks for any info Don

Bill, I think you just pinpointed the problem. I'm more of a Nissan guy, and know nothing about Ferraris

. But I have completed a few flights without the constant overspeeding, and done a couple of successful ILS approaches, so I'm getting there... eventually:engel016:. And the frames I get with this are excellent.

The Upgrade/Update should be out hopefully next weekend (after next). Maybe sooner.

Its wild. I had set out to make that screen system ultra basic, and did, and it still ran rough on some machines, lolol... arrgh..

Thanks MudMarine!

Hey Pekka,

Roger that.

I used to work at a Ferrari Dealership, lol.. I didnt drive them, but worked around people that did, etc. (I was in the race shop, we had a racing team). The thing is, that its designed for speed (an Epic and a Ferrari). So driving them around slowly is very 'delicate'. You seem to rarely use 4th or 5th gears as they are designed for over 100MPH, etc. So slow flight/slow driving can be 'difficult' lol....

With the new AP, Dwight has the Glide Slope so well tuned, that it will autoland (if the ILS is centered right in the sim). Its a blast!!!

Very nice Bill!

Even though its not my usual cup of tea, I think I will have to get this.

Mr. Bill "Lion Heart,"

I have the Epic LT v1.6 for FSX; is this an FS9 only version or is this the v1.7 for FSX as well?

Looks great either way; I'm one of those guys who likes all the "bells and whistles" in the Aircraft and I've enjoyed using your Epic v1.5/6 so far... Always wanted all the G900/1000 panel buttons to work on each panel, independantly, but perhaps that's too much for FSX? Anyway, looking forward to the next one... :wavey:

I spend the summers in Bay View MI, and on occasion pick up relatives at KPLN. The scenery is very true to the actual airport, besides being very well done. Although there are a few see thru problems, I run this scenery in FSX. Just can't pass up such a fine scenery in an area that is so near by, 15 miles. I have added a few photo real buildings to another small airport at Little Traverse Bay (LTB), Harbor Springs, for my own amusement. Probably of no interest to anyone else. I use the MegasceneryEarth photoreal for the area and love to visit this during the Winter when not vacationing there. Interesting sand dunes, ski resorts around LTB.
