Aero w/ Floats

OK. I am really enjoying Miltons Aero Design 500 and 520. Now I have a question: was there ever a float version? Real or FS9? I've been enjoying the autumn in Alaska, and would really like an Aero 5XX with floats. Just a thought.

Hello Mr. Shupe. I have (I think) all A/C you have built. Your AC 500/600 series are my favorites (Carenado, Australian Simulation, Aerosoft....offerings included). Not only is the execution of what you make for FS9 brilliant, so are the choices you make in aircraft. I still wonder if a float version of any of the 500/600 series saw the float modification. Truly an awesome bird. The view from the front office is the best, voluminous cabin space, and excellent flight characteristics. All of the water in FS9 Alaska keeps saying "land on me!".

Dandog,

You could always create a seperate folder, a seperate airfile set, that would have a pontoon set of entries in the landing gear contact points.

The floats would, of course, be imaginary and 'translucent' (invisible ;) ), but none the less, would let you land on water.

No, there never was a float modification done for the Aero Commander twins. Although it might look nice in a mini-Twin Otter sort of way it was never conceived as a multi-purpose or bush a/c.

I doubt that the performance hit and weight penalties of a set of floats would make it particularly attractive as a bush plane/floater, let alone the engineering challenges of building in the attach points and stress engineering for the floats and water operations. Also it would be a nightmare at float-change times - having to remove the heavy and complex retractable landing gear to reduce weight, then reinstalling it all in the winter... expensive & time-consuming.

(thinking... monster-truck tires and suspension on a Jaguar sedan for summer camping trips...)

Thank you all very much! I guess I am sticking to terra firma for now. Enjoying the AC Twins too much to change.
