FlightSim Developers P38 Now Released

I also noticed that the P38L model has FLTSIM.0 as P-38L Camouflage and calls for texture=camoL

In the P38L folder there is not a texture.camoL folder.

Please advise.

Hmph. Mine installed correctly the first time out, and works exactly as advertised. Looks like we've got a control group for testing at least. That can't hurt.

Hi Tim,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
is there any chance of making the manual available as a separate download for us users who don't have it available in the programs listing (64-bit <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on">Vista</st1:place>) ?<o:p></o:p>

.
As just stated in the YF-23 thread, most appears okay here for the "Factory Fresh" model now after installing the latest service release except no recognition lights here either. Seeing that this model is working with gauges & all, am reluctant to try & load "Red Bull" to see if it locks up on load as before or otherwise breaks anything else.

YF-23 seems healed too except as noted on ther other thread, but my Commanders still crash the sim when trying to load them, fatal error, APPCRASH from FSDX.dll. Commanders were flying perfectly before the initial install of the full P-38 package. Truthfully, am not wanting to see if trying to load "Red Bull" will lock up the sim again.

Will watch for any future service releases, but am wanting to express my displeasure with other FSD aircraft being affected with the installation of another. This tying together of multiple FSD aircraft code-wise makes no sense to me, though it must to you on some level. Am just not willing to be a beta tester here & am back to waiting to see when it all gets straightened out. Thanks. Your planes are cherished here, FSD, all of them (have got them all). It will all work out, am quite confident.

Hi,
I have just installed the service release for the P 38 and I have not had any problems whatsoever. I have noticed however that “yippee” still has the irritating reflections in the instrument glass but the other aircraft haven’t (or at least the ones that I have tried so far)
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p> </o:p>
I have never been a big fan of the P 38 and initially I wasn’t going to buy it, but curiosity and the fact that it was by FSD got the better of me and I relented.
<o:p> </o:p>
The model really is a work of art and I am glad that I did get it, but I can’t understand why some people are having problems with frame rates, because on my machine they are as good as any other aircraft I have and better than some.
<o:p> </o:p>
Congratulations FSD on a great product.

Ian.

I dont have framerate issues i have stuttering issues. Its not my system as every other plane i have runs flawlessly, and yes some are just as complex as this. Now with the "fix" that stole my gauges, I'm losing faith in this release and very well may take it down.

Some of us definitely need resized textures, please don´t tell me to do this, I´m just user...
My attempts with dtxmp weren´t really succesfull.

Cheers, Thilo

Well I must say that I've had the same problem with the Service Pack corrupting the gauges.

If it is of any diagnostic value I did modify my aircraft cfg. with only the additions for some freeware repaints and a couple of [CameraDefinition.X] entries that I created in the VC for my old tired eyes... 50+... ya know.

I'm running a P4 HT 3.2Ghz, 2 MB RAM, 800 MB FSB PC with Vista 32 bit, nVidia driver 190.38, 8800 GT Superclocked 512 MB. FSX/Acceleration DirectX 10 Preview Mode with Light Bloom "on".

The Service Pack did not overwrite either of the aircraft cfg. files.... my altered entries are still there... for the P38J and P38L folders.

Since I cannot address the current state of the gauges, I have know idea what was suppose to have been fixed, except for this :
  • Pilot yoke is now removable by clicking the gauge faces
  • Popup view for GNS 480 GPS in the restored (modern) panel
  • Texture improvements and modifications
  • Effects reworked for better visuals

Please forgive me if I post some screenies of Service Pack aircraft for as things stand now, and I know that ya'll are working hard to resolve these issues.

1. This post of Yippee had this problem pre & post the Service Pack while the sun was behind the aircraft [no other aircraft was affected] :

2009-10-10_16-47-2-543.png

2. I could not get the GPS unit on the restored Red Bull aircraft to show up. I got a very quick flash of a pop up panel box that was filled with the "Microsoft logo" on the bottom left of my screen when I hit "Shift+2".
I also had very poor preformance with the restored Red Bull aircraft, but it was able to load into FSX :

I figure there is no since coming here to complain unless I can "offer something" to other folks so they may enjoy our little hobby even more.

I was over at the A2A forum the other day and a gentleman "FrankK" there had made some [CameraDefinition.X] entries. So I modified his work for the P-38.
This is what I worked out to give a closer view of the "Temp. gauges" and the "GNS 480 GPS Unit" without the need for a pop up box.

3. Please change or renumber the red areas to your liking.

4. This is what you'll get in the restored RED BULL

2009-10-10_8-58-16-31.png

However at night the unit has no light mapping, maybe this was in the Service Pack:

This is what you'll get on other P-38 J & L models :

Now for the "Temp Gauges" on the RED BULL

... and other P-38J & L models :

The only issues that that are present pre-Service Pack are a lack of night mapping on some gauges and I found that I could not click to operate any of the switches even though I was so close to them on the " Temp Gauges" view, maybe it's got something to do with the slight angle of the view... with the GNS 480 GPS Unit, I could click to operate the unit. :isadizzy:

Hmmm, I don't know about the other problems, but that Microsoft Logo looks a familiar one. Are you using DX10 preview? Switch it off.

Ok, I made a backup of my present P-38 install, removed it completely, did a re-install (complete with error message, but seems to have worked), had a look: guages yes, smoke no, lights no. Made a backup of this one too
I then installed the patch: guages no, smoke yes, forgot the lights.
Finally, I swapped the two P-38 guage files after the patch for the ones before the patch: guages yes, smoke yes, light no, and no more pilot or rockets..

Smoke yes:

Pilot no, no more yellow blocks to push..

Sorry guys, it looks great, it sounds great, but it's starting to become a bit of a pain in the hangar.
I think I'll remove it again, go back to the very first version and forget about smoke and stuff..
Funny if you think about it, an update that actually makes it worse...

btw, is there anyway to make 'pilot on' the default?
now, everytime a change paintjob, I have to switch the pilot back on..

I don't suppose someone can point me in the direction of where exactly to download the installer? I've just had a hard drive failure and my last backup was prior to downloading the P-38.

I can't seem to find the relevant option on the FSD site.

Edit : Nevermind, found it! :)

Yep, i´m also back on the original version, because "Redbull" had exactly the same fps as Flame Out posted: 1 and 0.8.

Cheers, Thilo

I don't know why, but the latest re-install gives me guages, startup smoke AND a pilot. No lights though, but I have decided that I can live without them, I'm not going to touch anything anymore...
except maybe do another paintjob...

Where did you find the installer, I looked all over and can not find how to download the complete plane again unless you want to order a new one. I thought that I would try installing the updated installer rather than the service pack to see if that would work.
