I Asked, But No Joy...

I was rummaging through my HD archives tonight, and found some files Cees Donker-built several years ago - the CD_Airfield_Buildings_Vol_x.zip series from 2003-04.

I have absolutely no idea how much time and effort it would take... but is there ANY possibility that these APIs could be converted to BGL files for use as GSL objects in CFS2 ? The quality and detail are amazing, and his workmanship deserves a new audience.

I already wrote to Cees and asked how to convert these, but he has no idea - But I get the feeling that he wouldn't mind if a conversion genius would step up and do the do.

So - I ask ya; is anyone willing to attempt a conversion of Cees Donker's APIs to BGLs ?

Or [if not] Can someone please tell ME how to do it ?????

TIA
SC

Hi,

Decompile BGL's and add a damaged model in scasm. There's a couple of ways you could do it. The easy way would take less then a day to complete, the hard way about a week.

Naturally, the easy way is the BEST way, even with extra time on me hands...

But these ZIP files Have NO BGLs to work with at the moment... they're but a texture file or two and an API file... thus my predicament !

Hi SC,

If there in api format with no bgls you can still achieve the results you require.

It's then a matter of opening the API in notepad and cut/paste the drawing code and create the library object. For a very simple no thrills damage model all you need is a 2D plan and map one of the default inf damage textures to it.

If you need I can do one for you as an example and leave you with it to work out what I've done to achieve it. As you would understand I'd also need written permission by Cess before doing so.

His name is Cees, and yes, I have the required paperwork :mixedsmi:

Hi SdC,

On the subject of detailed airfield buildings, your website had a screenshot of Schiphol with the Fokker hangar. Any chance of uploading that scenery as well?

I got so frustrated with that project; I started out with a pre-war version to help with a "occupation" type scenario, but halfway through decided to go for a Fliegerhorst version. Whatever I release in that aspect, would be such a lame compromise I could not live with. First I have to complete some other WIP's before I touch those files again. What I have now is not Upload-Ready.

MOST Excellent, Sander !

THANK YOU ! Cees will be happy to hear the news - I think I was making him nervous, asking for him to go beyond the call to dig these old files out... lol

WHO VOLUNTEERS?

I have the working library BGL + source files zipped up. Who volunteers to:
1. test the objects; missing textures, scale etc.
2.. correct dp's, I think I've used the same dp for all objects; they should be replaced by better matching dp's
3. get it ready for release; INFO pictures, mdlnames.txt data etc.

PM me your email address and I'll send it right over.

Well, they're nearly done!

Cees recently forwarded his/Sander's/sc7500's package to me and I have been working on it the last few days.

There were 55 objects and 25 DPs made. Now all 91 objects from Cees's original API packages are complete. I've added another 20 DPs, so I am at the halfway mark in that department.

I was able to convert Cees's original INFO pictures which cover over three quarters of the objects. I just need to take about 20 extra screenshots. The mdlnames.txt entries are done.

I have tested the objects for scale and textures but not for the DPs. I have no clue how to make DPs, so I simply copied Sander's DPs for similar size buildings.

Any help in making the remaining DPs would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, all the objects look magnificent. If you have any of Cees Donker's or Ian Elliot RAF airfields installed, you will see what I mean.

C.S. FILES

:icon_lol: SC I have those files also and was about to delete them when I saw your post. I had gathered them along with a buch of other APIs and such, in case I needed them to use in something I was going to do a learning experience, when I had the expected time. That didn't pan out as the pain- killers put me mentally out there!:icon_lol:.
Now I will patiently wait for your collaborative experience(as usual :icon_lol:) with the other fine gentlemen.:salute:

Thanks SC - I'll start testing the ones I have so far. I might be able to do some more substituting with DP files for similar objects.

These ones could be looked at:

The Underground Fuel Storage;
The Incendiary Bomb Store;
The Pyrotechnics Store;
The Armoury.

Those ones should make pretty spectacular explosions. :salute:

Hi Kevin...I've pm'd you about the texture for the incendiary bomb store.....
I've got this in my Instant Scenery library (FS9/GW3) but can't use it as it doesn't have a texture.
I'm hoping to find someone who will let me have a copy.......
Cheers,
Terry.
