There is 'growing' pressure from many fronts to complete the straight deck Essex, either WWII or Korea, I may have to curtail the super detail I originally envisaged and just paint what I currently have and release it.

From the shots I have seen the carriers look pretty special even in the unfinished state.

Sort of, theres lots of detail but also lots of sparse areas, its going to take a week or more to refresh my mind as to what I've got, which hull, weapons fit, conflict etc etc before I'm up to speed LOL, but after a quick look it seems I have two carriers for each conflict, Yorktown / Shangri La for WWII, Boxer / (my notes say Antietam but theres no Max model ?) Leyte (no notes but a Max model ?) for Korea and Oriskany / Ticonderoga for Vietnam, but even thats not quite right some where as the Max models dont tie up with the notes LOL. SCB125 carrier hulls are a mess to make effective models from...its been a busy night shift and I need some sleep ZZzzzzz now LOL. Once I have a definative hull for a given period then I can progress, the other sub variants would have to come along later I'm afraid.

Anyway back to Panthers, enough hijacking :).

Angled decks didnt come until after Korea and I'm pretty sure Panthers were not operational on angled decked vessels, Cougars yes, but Panthers ?.

I'd be quite happy with the carrier you've had on the back burner, no matter if it's straight or angled. I personally don't need working elevators, talking Air Bosses, deck equipment, and stuff. All of that eye candy is nice in it's own way, but it will never make me feel as though I'm flying off of a real carrier. A ship that looks good, traps, and catapults is just great.

Mmmm !, I bet I'm the only one whos looking more at the boat than the planes LOL, nice shots there, odd one with a Marines on deck, there usually land based but some did serve on deck for a while, nice shot fio the LSO platform and the aft 5" DP's. I dont actually need much encouraging, just 36hr days would suffice.

Ok, a new thread when I have something definative Korean Hull and progress to show in the near future.

Accept your point but that's kinda like accepting aircraft with no detail on landing gear or plain grey gear wells, i fully accept that it'll be 1% of 1% that will notice the correct antenna fit or walkway emplacements and correct weapons etc, but to me historical correctness is everything LOL.

I went to the Madera, CA. warbird show about 1984 IIRC, and there was a flying F9F making passes over the airfield, along with John crocker's racing P-51 mustang in chase, all I recall was the panther kept blowin puffs of black smoke out the tailpipe, took up the whole runway to get airborn, as it was very hot that day. I thought the engine was failing, until a old pilot standing next to me said "It has a axial flow jet engine, thats why it does that" So dont forget the smoke.

That is a perfect line up Michael. Quality cv's such as yours from each of those three conflicts have been sorely missing from FS for too long. Look forward to flying off these in the Solomons, off Korea and on Yankee Station.

Michael,
One of these days a few of us are gonna' show up at your front door and keep you locked in the back room until you finish one of those *%$#@!! carriers!

Fair warning given...besides I've always wanted to visit the UK.

your pal,
mal :wavey:

The cougar is indeed in development and will be seperate from the Panther, to be precise.. we will be releasing 2 addons in regards to the cougar :

Cougar 8 / 8P
Cougar 8 /8T

Will this package contain an AI model? It would be nice if more dev's could throw one in with their models. Big open ramps get lonely.

Now that would be funny.

The actual takeoff specs for the Panther are pretty good for one in factory condition, something like 850 ft on a dry runway, std day. Turbine engines getting old and being babied to keep the temps down probably account for the long takeoff run.

The one Real Old Salt and I worked over from the AH one for FS9 was a hoot to land on the FS9 straight deck Hornet, Enterprise and Lady Lex by YANKO (nice boats!). Dump down to light weight, accurate speed and drag control and keep the RPM's up....

These should be fun.

Cheers: T
