A Request To Mr Cees Donker To build RAF Chilbolton In Hampshire UK

Dear Mr Donker,

I just saw the movie "Breaking The Sound Barrier" it was made at RAF Chilbolton 62 miles southwest of London, in 1951 it was the testing facility for Vickers Ltd flying the Supermarine Swift, the first swept back jet fighter for the RAF, I am searching for a picture of RAF Chilbolton as it looked from 1945 to 1951 with the hangars and runways there. I hope you will consider this project.

Cheers

Casey:salute:

I can google Motormouse:173go1:, but that's a WWII plan and aerial, nothing about the period thereafter.

I can google Motormouse,

My late Uncle worked there for Follands; he would often
tell the story of how when the fitters were struggling one-time to fit a Gnat canopy, they were cursing the designer
(there is a distinct knack to fitting a Gnat canopy, I had to do it in RAF once or twice); when W.E.W Petter
overheard. Climbing up the steps 'Teddy' Petter took charge and soon the canopy was fitted..with Petter remarking
"now the **** that designed it ,has fitted it"

Do a search in your local library (or whatever) for the book 'Into The Jet Age' by Eleanor M. Lockyer
covers activities at Chilbolton for the period you are looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion Motormouse!
Is there anyone on the forum that has this book?

Cees
