Contemplating the plunge

CFS 3,man I hate that game. But for $7 buy it and try it,and the least they make very pretty coasters for your drinks. And until you try it you will never know if you like it.:d

And by the way,
Free IL 2- 1946

I have a copy collecting dust if anyone wants it email me....free no less.I will not be checking back here so don't respond here.

It is an original 2 disc set,not a burned copy.

There are far more planes, add ons, missions, etc., for CFS2 and not worth the time for me to learn a new set of tricks because of alleged greater video resolution/detail. If I get hold of at least a 3.4 gig box with a 1 gig video card I'll play with it, for now I'll stick with CFS2.

Well let's see here.

I ran CFS3 on a rig with 1gig of RAM 128mb video card and it ran very well with an avg of 50fps.Even with an intel video chip I got an avg 30fps.That's not even half of what you are talking about Tony. You should stick with CFS2 and learn the ins and outs of it.Maybe some day you'll learn to get the ai planes to do what you want them to do like I've done.

Talon

Talon, have fun this summer. When you come back could you wright down some of the tricks of the trade on how you controll the AI AC?

Well, my twopence is i like both CFS2 AND CFS3...a lot!:ernae: The only real drawbacks i see in CFS3 is no 'open world' environment, no mouseable 2D cockpits and a mission builder that's not as good as CFS2's. Other than this i love it, especially the target-rich environments you get in QC and FF that allows you to strafe and bomb MOVING trains, convoys and single vehicles that create their own dust trails as they move on roads and trails. And now that i'm working with a high-end rig, i can enjoy it even more at very high FPS numbers, all sliders maxed.

One thing is for sure Talon: I'm sold on Panasonic Toughbooks. This one is used for remote video surveillance, artwork, writing, and is the cornerstone of my little stereo system. CFS2 is my first love however, as you say, I'll park right here with it and hope I get some time to really get into its guts.

Take care of yourself

This computer is just dedicated to gaming.Guess that's why I have no trouble running the games.I could make a list of what my other computers are for on the boat but it would just bore you. Most people in here know what they're for anyway because it's been discussed before.

Talon

I agree with Talon both sims have their good points, CFS2 is primitive in terms of ground detail and weather, the night, dawn and dusk settings are stone age in terms of environment...and the steps needed to get the add ons to work are at a touchy stage, for there is a new better world mesh but it has no shorelines unless they are added by individual sceneries. And you have to add entries manualy to the list of text entries and make careful adjustments to the installed stuff to get it to work. I have not succeeded yet with some of the complex areas and I am not a novice to this all.

CFS3 has some great mods that greatly enhance areas , esp the Medditerranean theatre and the European one, and the Pacific and more is being done to add more.

So i guess both would be my answer too. Just be aware that CFS2 out of the box is very very limited ..in some ways...and you will need to learn the ropes to get it upgraded. But there are a ton of great planes, and add ons if you can spend the time to learn the ropes.

Talon

I am greatly looking forward to being able to play Pearl, in either CF sim and or IL2.....eager is not the word. Thanks for that heads up Talon and for all that you do to help keep us in the air in many ways.:salute:
