The HUD...not really neccesary in an Air Transport Category plane, but alot of fun to use. In Flight Sim the HUD is very convenient because of the field of view limitations, and in the RW a fighter with a HUD is a must because of the mission and type of flying. In an airliner....well, it's just a cool gee-whiz thing. If you're wondering why have it at all, it's a convenience item for use in some extremely low-vis approach's, and hand flying in mountainous regions.
The HUD in the CRJ series is on a hinge, and stow's into a recessed ceiling cradle if you choose not to use it. Not all CRJ's have it, though. It's an option from the factory.
In the video, I have the brightness up much higher than normal because the camera wasn't able to see the symbology at a normal user setting. So, if while watching you're thinking it's a little too bright, that's because it is.
